Food and Water

I have died several times due to not finding much food and water.
Any tips for a new player?

Also, I died inside a mine and had to reload as my coffin was gone.

It gets easier as you progress. Make sure to grab every food/water item you can in each location. Build the blacksmith ASAP which will allow you to make better tools/ weapons including the water tap.

Keep an eye out for the Prickly Pear Cactus. The red fruit on it is good for thirst and hunger, and you can find seeds on them too. They're really great once you start growing them yourself.

Are Prickly Pear Cacti and Canned Food the only food items?

I've been picking up everything I can, but RNG keeps ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ me over. In my current game, I've found three cans of food in three days, four Barrel Cacti, and no Prickly Pear cacti.

I am new to the game, but have made the tap and have a canteen.
But for the life of me can't figure out how to fill the canteen.

You should get a prompt in the lower right from wells and cave basins. I haven't crafted a Cactus Tap yet, so I don't know how that's handled.

Where did you find a Brazier?

Hey, I'm trying to get started with this game, but I keep starving. It's nice to find wells for water, but not much food. I've only found one can of food in each of the first two locations and that doesn't seem like enough. I keep losing health due to being hungry. A bit frustrating.

You want to look for Prickly Pears. They're made of big ovals and they have egg-shaped red fruits. They're also farmable.

Yeah, prickly pears are the way to go. They are bright green so are visible high up (the regular cacti are dark green). I've currently got two prickly pears in planter beds at the back of the airship so food is no longer a problem.
