TF2 could easily get a 100k daily CONSISTENT (aka not influenced by bot numbers) player count IF the heavy update came out right now.
But it won't, because Valve is lazy as ♥♥♥♥. The very definition of "Excuses"
and honestly they are extremly out of touch with what players actually want from them.
The Valve of today is a extremly mid game developer helped only by the fact they are not beholden to insane shareholders demanding constant DEI crap and other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (but even that has been leaking in on their own will, Deadlock looks like pure crap) and it's clear that the company is bleeding talent while the talented ones that defines genres are content (Robin Walker) to sit on their fat arses getting a salary for doing barely anything.
Content mostly in their revenue from Steam.
Seems like no matter what, public or non public, corporations end up corrupt and a shadow of their former selves because complacency sets in.
And don't hit at me with the "rolling desktop culture" crap excuse, Gaben can (and has in the past) put his foot down and proven just how much that carefree attitude matters when ♥♥♥♥ is on the line and he wants something done.
They update the game every year so that it still functions on android & iOS. There was a brief period a couple years ago where it didn't work on phones and they fixed it after 2 days. Ever since they've been really on top of it.
Which means that they are aware of the game and want it to stay accessible, yet they have no plans to actually do anything with it.
I've tried it. It's not good. The only people who play it are people who are too dumb to play video games outside of Riot's client.
The carousal, the spatula, the lack of interesting alliances are all terrible. The hex grid and the reintroduction of creeps also makes the game just interesting to position or even play.
