Even basic things like buying new heroes and rerolling are a pain in TFT, since the visual queues are really bad and don't let player distuinguish well in a short time. It takes me a somewhere between 0.5 and 1 second per reroll in underlords, it took me about 3-5 seconds in TFT just cause the presentation i so bad it takes so long to get to the relevant information. Also sometimes information is not given at all (like with the comeback mechanic, where you get to draft first if your last, but you don't even know what your drafting because you can't clikc on the heroes to get information, so unless you already know all the heroes and items you just guess and that's really bad).
Also the item system really conveluted in TFT, you have 8 basic items that combine into more advanced items, I had to have a second screen with information open next to me to even be able to play this game and half the time I messed up anyway cause there's so many combinations and in the heat of the moment you misclick or look up the wrong column. (And of course there's no undoing that and you're stuck with a useless item then).
I'd say gameplay wise TFT is probably a bit better atm, the pacing is quicker, earlier and midgame damage matters more, which leaves more room for different strategies and in theory it sohuld have a bit mroe depth because of how the item system works (though it could also be needless complexity since most of the items you'll never build or use, I think. so they're just there to clog up the tables than having a meaningful impact on the game).
Also movement bugs seem rather prevalent in TFT (like character not attack or taking a couple of seconds to move somewhere to do something all the while the battle already is in full effect), which makes the game quite frustrating at times.
Anyway, after this I went back to Underlords cause I just couldn't be bothered with how bad TFT is in that regard. I'll gladly come back to it once they fix the presentation and realize they have to give information to players and can't expect them to know everything from the start.
On a side not I believe TFT gonna be sure better in a long term. Valve unfortunatelly is not good at keeping alive a game. Riot on the other hand did an impressive job with Lol in the last couple of years.
because of one bad example (artifact) valve has this reputation, ignoring all other titles (dota2, CS:GO, TF2), of not being able to keep a game alive?

Actually all examples from Valve are bad. CS:GO, Left4dead, Dota2....you get updates maybe once a year. Thats not exactly a good example.
I am not following TF2 so I dont know how is it there.
Lol on the other hand gets a nice update every quartal.
well it depends on the game how frequently it needs updates. I mean, if the game lives, than valve is technically keeping it alive, no matter how frequent the updates are. if ppl play it, it is alive, no?
I wouldn't argue that the FPS-genre needs frequent balance updates or stuff like that.
i haven't been following LOL, but since you mentioned they did a great job with it: I only heard about how horribly imbalanced it is and that several players jumped ship after years of devotion. what's your take on this?

I am not a CS player. This is suprising. It did not feel CS is getting any new content. Maps, weapons, game modes...stuff like that. When I was watching streamers/tournaments it seemed the gameplay did not evolve at all.
But maybe I am wrong.
PS.: Balance updates dont count. They are important but new content also needs to be added to keep the game fresh.
My friends were not complaining aabout Lol updates. The exact opposite. They are adding new heroes quite frequently and also tweaking game systems.
The worst possible update in Dota 2 was when Valve decided to completelly change the map. I dont remeber what was the name of the update.
Since Icefrog left development of Dota only 4 new heroes were added. Thats in 5 or more years. Quite underwhelming I would say. Especially when Valve has so much money. They could hire a full time Dota development team any time.
well to me it seems you are more concerned about constant "fresh content" rather than balance.
Dota2 is a very competetive game were balance matters very much. why screw with something too much when it reached decent balance? especially when it already has a decent pool to pick from.
riot has the reputation to never ever having achieved a decent balance. every patch swings balance heavily in another direction, at least that's what i heard, again, don't really care about it.
granted, that keeps the game "fresh" but at the same time it's not something that should be applauded, and if that is anything to go by, TFT will feel the same.
and that's somethin i don't really want, no matter the amount of "fresh content" to cover up for their poor balance

I have to disagree. Counter strike is like coca cola or mac donalds. You never change a running system. Every major change is a huge risk and will automatically produce a giantic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in the cs forum (oh come on valve, I can't say s h i t s t o r m anymore? Who cares?). CS did not change a thing for 15 years. It has always been the same. 95% of cs updates are balance tweaks and that's very important, if you want to have a happy e-sports community.
