is ranking broken?
Ive played only like 15-20 matches and every match i go up 1-3 ranks im already lieutenant.
In autochess i had to play like 20+ games just to get to bishop. I feel like my rank is too high for playing casually a couple hours a day lol
I have a hard time believing everyone else isnt flying up ranks as well, since the 2 matches i lost i didnt go down a rank. so how are ranks spread out between players?

Yes, got same question when my rank was frozen by about 30 games on boss rank 1(but now boss rank 2-3)
U got hidden mmr (real rate and can de-rate) and icon rank which cant de-rate.
U dont know real mmr numbers because it's hidden from u eyes.
What u need - won as many games as u can to so that the icon rating somehow changed.

Mine was flying till I hit Lt. like you. I hit it pretty fast. Now I'm stuck. The games are much harder and the players you can tell are are lot better. Most players are still in at round 30. If you keep blasting past the ranks, you're just that good. The highest I've been is Lt. IV and the lowest LT. I right now I'm at Lt. 2 and was 3 yesterday. I hit Lt. in about 60-70 hours I want to say, though sometimes I leave the game running on my comp so the hours might be off regarding actual matchmaking time.

I'm now at like 120 hours in play time and am still stuck at Lt.

That's just how the Glicko MMR works. Your MMR starts essentially at 0 and you quickly move up the ranks. After 25 games your MMR is relatively stable and starts to move a lot slower as you have reached your proposed skill level.

If you stop ranking up, it esssentially means you have reached your skill level.

All I'm hearing is that people fly to big boss, somehow inch up to big boss 2 or 3, lose a game or two and back to big boss 1 elo hell.

I'm stuck at boss 1, I've made it to boss 3 from 1 in like 5-6 games. But after that i've had a spree of 4 bad games that droppped me to boss 1 and left one game 4th round. And after that I've won 3 games and took 3rd and 2nd places like 5-6 time only once i've hit 5th place. And I was beating dudes that were above me in rank. Nah it's broken.

I believe that there has been quite a lot of thought into the ranking system. I am doing very well, for only having played 15 matches. I expect to hit a hard wall soon...I'm not real good at these types of games...but I do enjoy them. I have 300+ steam games, and like to play a variety of games. IF I spent all my gaming time on this game, I suspect I would do just fine. But I don't, and I'll take the lower rating as a result.

Due to the involved rng/luck part Underlords is not that level/rank oriented. Don‘t turn a good game into a tryhards realm.

Every game is a tryhard game at its upper echelon. Anyone who just wants to have fun can do so, but some people want to compete for upper Big Boss ranks. And you are not getting their by being lucky, you have to consistently perform well.

Even right now after only a few weeks people start looking for reasons why they are not at the top. Of course it‘s the game‘s or other people‘s fault.

Yes. I've lost rank by placing 3rd... although that is considered a "Win". You can lose your tier within that rank for example if you are a Grifter 1-5 you can lose your 1-5. You cannot however lose your Grifter.

However, since your MMR is hidden lets say you are a Grifter 1 and you play a couple bad games, although you can't lose your Grifter status your real MMR is below grifter. This would be apparent due to the opponents you're playing against if they are say Upstarts opposed to Grifters.

I'm finding I have to place 1st or 2nd to rank up and even that is not a guarentee. Sometimes I'll get first and boom, nothing happens. Sad days.

I think it also based on what your opponent rank is. When I'm playing with my friend which still at upstart, if I get any rank below 2 is guaranteed to get demoted ( Also I get nothing when win ). Playing solo also guaranteed lose rank if placed on 7-8th, and only get promoted on 1st or 2nd occasionally. At the moment I'm still boss 3.

I'm guessing and hoping that theoretically you could rank up at 3rd place as it is considered a win if your playing against people at ur skill or higher. However it would probably take many 3rd place wins to rank up opposed to getting 3 first place wins? Not sure if thats a thing and would be pretty hard to test as youd have to win say 6 matches all at 3rd without losing or gaining more than that. Oh how we need a progress bar.

you said earlier, that its based on mmr, so it depends on the numbers of games you played total - or in other words...if you played 10 games and have 1 win it has an higher impact, than if you played 100. so i dont think, its possible to perform your test at all.
