Tank Maniacs is a great chaotic Local brawler for up to 4 players, Choose a character and one of the gamemodes to Kill the competition with your tank and morph into other tanks by collecting pickups.

There is not much of a story, There is a story, But that won't play out in the game, There is just a small piece of text on the store product page, But I focus on the content of the game itself. The game seems to be some kind of gameshow where you have to battle tanks It has a very typical sports commentator. The game has 12 playable characters which all have their charm, They are very unique and have a bit of a personality. They don't talk, but they all have a name, picture and a unique tank, which already tells a lot.

The game is a local multiplayer game for up to 4 players, You can also play it by yourself against bots. There is no campaign, no unlockables, Just 12 Characters, 11 tank types, 10 maps and 4 gamemodes, 8 if you want to count the team variants. The game will be exactly the same every time you launch it. There is also no Steam Cloud Save for this reason.

You play as a tank, you can drive left and right and you can jump and shoot, and those are all the controls, The goal depends on the gamemode, But it mostly involves taking down other tanks. There are also suprise boxes that are being dropped by airplanes, They give you full health and you transform into a random tank, There are 11 of them, You can get a flying tank that drops bombs, or a dragon tank that shoots fireballs, They all behave and shoot in a different way. The weapon physics remind me a bit of Worms.

The gamemodes are Last Tank Standing, In which everyone has 5 lives and the last tank alive is the winner, Deathmatch is the same, Only the winner here is determined by who has the most kills, Gameshow Which is like LTS but a lot of stuff is going on, like exploding monkeys and Holy Hand grenades straight from the Worms universe. and finally Symmetric Showdown where there is a timer and each time it hits zero everyone changes in the same tank type, You don't heal but the crates here contain health. These 4 gamemodes all have a Team variant so you can work in teams if you prefer that.

The levels are often interactive, Things change, turn or have dangerous areas, One areas is even balancing while the tanks decide which way the level will tip. The tanks controls smoothly, The physics are great and The gameplay is a lot of fun, It is addictive and especially with friends, There is no online, So make sure you have those controllers, If not you can assign 2 players to the keyboard. But Multiplayer is certainly where this game shines, If you get a bit better at the game the AI is too easy.

Graphically it looks nice, I don't want to say Worms again, But it looks a bit like Worms. The funny Cartoony drawing style, It is very colorful and playful. While you are bombing your friends the commentator will always know the right thing to say, He almost is the soundtrack, But the music is nice too, It is nothing special, But it fits the game well.

The user interface is great, You start in a press any button to play screen, With 4 empty squares, Touch your controller and you can select a character, Then you can drive around in your tank getting used to the controls, If you drive to the right you will enter the gamemode selector screen, Here you can also drive around to change your gamemode, team or not, And if you drive to the right again you can add bots or all stand on a platform which will start the game. It is a perfect UI for a local brawler.

The game released last December, and it has not sold well sadly, It failed to gain any traction and got a Steam limited rating while it is an absolute gem, The game got last updated in Januari, I hope they have not given up hope on this project and will continue to support the game with new content.

There is no endgame, The game you start in the first time is all that is available. But there is a lot of replayability if you play local multiplayer a lot. The gamemodes are fun, It creates a nice competitive atmosphere to any gamenight and this is one to be played occasionally for years.

I would love to see a campagin, Maybe even a coop campaign, Maybe copy Worms entirely and also add in a training, More tank types and more levels would be nice, Online multiplayer and some unlockables would also be cool. Maybe some more characters, I don't think this is a must, there is a great variation already, But who doesn't love unlockable characters, Maybe some skins for a tank if you win 10 rounds with that tank.

It feels like a Team 17 game, It looks like a Team 17 game, It even has the crossovers like most Team 17 games have, With Team 17 IP nonetheless. But it is not a Team 17 game. Surely there is nothing wrong with Team 17 and there is also nothing wrong with this game, It is extremely fun to play, especially if you have more than 1 friend over. Even against bots it is fun and addictive.

This game is amazing! I'm not really into 2D games (unless it is Worms), but this game made my day. Worth the price for sure.

I participated in the beta and the game was awesome back in the beginning and became even more fun due to a lot of love and work from the developers. Its best as a couch coop with friends. If you dont have enough controllers it is perfect with the phone app yo can use as a controller, the input lag is negligable. Buy it and enjoy it. It is worth every penny!

Tank Maniacs is a fun local multiplayer game that feels like Worms mixed with Super Smash Bros.

Intro

Tank Maniacs is a local multiplayer based game where you and 3 other players fight each other in various game modes to see who’s the best player. It’s sort of like a mixture between Worms, and Super Smash Bros. in a way. If this sounds interesting to you, do read on to find out more about the game!

Game Modes and Characters

One of the most important features of any multiplayer game is it’s game modes. The choice of characters is also of importance because everyone has a favorite character that they like to play as (I liked playing as the Velociraptor, personally).

The game features 12 unique characters for you to play as and each one has a unique appearance. You never get to see the character in-game, so you’re just choosing your character picture. Characters range from Clowns to gangster wacky waving inflatable tube men. Its characters are absurd, to say the least.

The game has a total of 8 different game modes to choose from including, Deathmatch, Gameshow, Symmetric Showdown and Last Tank Standing. Each mode has a team-based option as well bringing the selection to 8.

Each mode is played differently. Deathmatch is a mode everyone is familiar with (It’s a free for all battle), Gameshow has various events that occur during a match that can be both fatal or beneficial to you or your opponents. Symmetric Showdown grants everyone in the game the same power ups. And, Last Tank Standing is as the name suggests.

Gameplay

Once in the game, you’ll be going all out against your friends in a side-scrolling battle in a small arena using the tanks you’ve chosen. The arena’s are somewhat similar to what you’d find in Super Smash Bros but are all hand-drawn and 2D. Each tank has a short firing range and you’ll need to be careful where you aim because you can damage yourself with your own bullets.

There are also power-ups that you can make use of as you battle. Each power up is unique and transforms your tank into something different. There’s a military helmet, a cannon, a chicken that shoots eggs, an airplane that can fly and bomb enemies (I’m terrible at this power-up) and quite a few others. When you’re knocked out of the battle, airplanes fly overhead periodically and the knocked out players can bomb the remaining players below.

Some Minor Complaints

There were some minor things that I noticed that I found a little annoying. First and foremost was the announcer for the match. He starts off bearable, but he quickly gets a little annoying after multiple matches.

There was a bug I encountered while playing with my friends as well. The game would revert to windowed mode for no reason which led me to hit Alt+Enter to make it go back to full-screen again. Not entirely sure what caused it, but I’m sure this will be fixed in the future.

Verdict

Overall, my friends and I had quite a lot of fun with the game. I lost more games than I won this time around but it was a lot of fun regardless. It was also nice playing something that we were all on even footing in. The majority of the time it’s usually a default win for me regardless of what we play. If you’re in the market for a local multiplayer to play then Tank Maniacs is a pretty good option. If all of your best friends live in other countries or in other states, like mine, you’ll be happy to hear that the game is fully compatible with Steam’s Remote Play Together feature. I didn’t notice any bugs with the game using the feature either, so we were pretty happy with it. I’m going to SAVE this one, it’s a pretty solid game in its genre, and should provide quite a few hours of enjoyment among friends.

Recommend this game to anyone who's looking for a good Couch Co-op fun time. The premise is quite simple but you have various modes to pick from so it offers a great amount of variety. Also the design and the animations look amazing.

so much fun, i really enjoy the game together with my friends we got some great laughs. I love the graphics style. hope online multiplayer will come to this game, but I sit together with my friends at least.

If you want a local couch game (or even at a deployed competition somewhere), you can count on this game. Playable casually even with your girlfriend/boyfriend or with friends. The controls are really easy to get familiar with (just two buttons and directions), so you can ramp up yourself in minutes. The graphics/music is great, no bugs found, perfect even for children.
Too bad this game did not receive a bigger attention, it would deserve it.

This game is huge. I love the characters and the tracks - Dr. Evil is my favourite. It's fun to play alone but it's even better with friends.

They have done a great job on this title. It has four modes each with a solo or a team version. I tried each mode in solo with bots to give you a feel for the game and found it to be far more fun than I expected. It has high quality animations, numerous characters to choose from, and there are loads of nice weapon drops during the game. This is a high quality PVP or Co-Op game and anybody interested in the genre should take a look.
