Mechanically this game is very similar to Slay the Spire (even some enemies have the exact same mechanics as some in STS), but you have less control when building your deck, and with SO MANY cards and unlocks it gets harder as the time goes by, making it more difficult.
Card removal is both more available and affordable i.e. more taverns and one removal is always 50 coins
Reward choice also includes the trinkets / artifacts, one-use items and cards that get removed from the battle deck within each battle, so it is not always mandatory to take a card that will stay within the deck
I have played through to the third boss of the starting islands now a couple times and lost a few other runs. I have not had the feeling of having a bloated deck yet. By contrast if I was taking card draws from most or every battle in a Slay the Spire run I would be doomed to failure. So . . . potentially the game is well balanced to incorporate the mandatory draw.
I am not declaring myself a huge fan of the absence of reward skipping but my early experience is that it does not prevent fun/good deck building.
Huh, did not realise you could do that! Cool! I continue to not find the forced addition a barrier that prevents creation of good decks too. This will help.
