The proper place to put save files is in %appdata% or %localappdata%
I read the patch notes, and saw devs moved the location because of OneDrive issues but missed the opportunity to put it where Windows is designed to put saved files and other application data, which is in %appdata%\<gamename> or alternatively %localappdata%. Such a great game, such a simple design flaw.

I had this issue and nothing worked form me, until I:

1) uninstalled and reinstalled FF
2) paused syncing for onedrive for 2h
3) copied the FF folder from c:/Users/USERNAME/AppData/Local
4) pasted file and replace existing file in c:/Users/USERNAME/Saved Games
5) opened and ran FF to make sure it worked then closed it
6) unpaused ondrive

hope this helps someone
DO NOT USE ONEDRIVE! That's the whole reason for moving the save files. Get rid of it! Disable/uninstall that pile of crap asap.

As a power user, I hear that, but App Data is a terrible place to put saves because it is hidden by default for most users, and most users are not tech savvy.

It massively complicates accessing your save data. Explaining to someone over a support email how to show hidden folders may as well be sorcery to some people.

I am not a sophisticated computer user. I now can't play FF. How do people like me who enjoy the game nut don't know enough t play with the files do?

1. Go to OneDrive and pause sync for 1 hour.

2. Open the C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\Documents\my games\Farthest Frontier\Save directory. It may also exist inside C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\OneDrive\Documents\My Games\Farthest Frontier.

3. Cut the entire Farthest Frontier folder and move it to:

C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\Saved Games\

4. Make sure no copies of the Frontier folder exist anywhere else.

5. Launch the game.

No its not. Appdata is a application data working directory like temporary, caches etc.
%userprofile%\saved games is a common directory which is used widely by other games.

many games place their files at this directory:
D:\Users\Pera\Saved Games

CD Projekt Red
Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars
Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars
Cosmoteer
Crysis2
CrysisRemastered
Diablo II
Diablo II Resurrected
Diablo II Resurrected Multiplayer Beta
Diablo II Resurrected Tech Alpha
Farthest Frontier
id Software
Jagged Alliance 3
Metro Exodus
My Games
Quantic Dream
The Last of Us Part I

(Yes, D is my user data drive where users are created and saved. C is operating system only and not allowed for any applications. This is for backup and space reasons.)

This is true, but that is considered a "legacy" location, dating back to older versions of windows. The new standard is to store them in Appdata and Locallow. But @Zantai is right that the fact that appdata is a hidden folder by default makes that new standard less than ideal, especially from a tech support standpoint.

I personally prefer the old standard better. So much so that any games that I have which put save data in the appdata folders, which is most new games, get their saves moved to my D:\Users\<name>\Saved Games folder and then I use MKlink to link the appdata location to the location I moved it to so that the games function.
