Getting a good map roll is very frustrating
The way resources are allocated on maps is absolutely nuts.
Which makes me so frustrated I quit after I rerolled a map 6 or 7 times with no results.

Most of the time I get enough clay to become the clay pot manufacturer of the world. But maybe only one or two spots with other minerals.

Or I get a map with no water, or I get a map with three lakes and not one willow bush anywhere. Or I get a giant lake that has only one fishing spot on the entire thing which is limited. And it would be nice if the fisherman had a boat and nets instead of a guy with a fishing pole trying to feed an entire village.

Or I get a map where the nearest deer herd is clear on the top of the map miles away from where I'm building. I've even rolled maps where there was literally only one spot where there were deer.

I even got one map that had only one pile of stone like miles away and that was it on the entire map.

Or you roll a map that has only scrub trees no forests. Or you get a map with a lot of forest but it's on the other side of a mountain.

And don't even get me started on the way herbs are spread out or nonexistent.

And farming can be equally frustrating I'll pick a spot that has no trees no rocks but it takes them two years to clear an area where there's nothing. Or the farming area will be too sandy or to much of something else but my town hasn't grown enough to be able to start improving the soil.

And when it comes to collecting taxes I would like to know where my villagers are getting the gold to pay them especially when I don't even have a traitor yet?

I mean basic necessities you need to start out should not be so difficult to come by And you shouldn't need to reroll a map 1/2 a dozen times and hope you get lucky. Yes I know about trading but most of the time I don't have the resources to trade, and why should I have to trade for basic things like Willow, leather, and other basics necessities that should be on every map.

I could go on and on about some of the frustrating ways this game either allocates the resources or the amount of resources you need to build certain things which seem ridiculous. I think the developers should take a pause and try playing their own game maybe then they'll get the point when they get frustrated.

Then use Advanced Settings and play an Idyllic Valley map all the time. Maps are not meant to have all resources on them and trading is a major part of the game to get those things you can't make yourself.

You can even use Custom Settings to increase or decrease resources on a map if you want to.

I didn't say anything about the maps should have all the resources.
I said that the way they were allocated is extremely hit and miss and in most cases don't make any sense.

I also mentioned trading, but if you have a map that doesn't have a proper resource allotment then you've got nothing to trade or not enough.

There is a hidden map called wasteland that has almost nothing on it and I mean almost nothing. Players have beaten this map on vanquisher so much of your post is your preferences to have everything to fit nice and neatly in the palm of your hand. In the real world, no area is blessed with everything at their fingertips.

You're kidding right? Wasteland does lack things like herbs, willow, etc, but is absolutely chocka with minerals you can sell to get other stuff.

That is if you live long enough to open up those minerals. All trees are dead meaning 2 logs, no fertile ground for farming, water wells are very slow to fill, raids come frequently and no timber to build up defenses. No I am not kidding. Go play vanquisher and let me know how it turns out for you Medea.

If you look at the thread I already did though I played Pacifist on it.

for the OP, many people post good seeds on steam and other forums. just look up some good seeds.

also, part of the intended game design is to challenge resource management and trade. if you remove that, then the game becomes less than the intended design.

not having all ressources is part of the game, with the right settings you cant upgrade your buildings to T2 without trading and yet its not hard at all.

If you were the leader of a band of settlers, would you settle anywhere that wasn't idyllic?
MedeaFleecestealer 22 FEB a las 1:57 a. m.
If you run out of food stores yes, you might have to.

My preferred map setup is lots of resources, but also lots of bandit raids. That way you kinda get the best of both worlds with lots of resources to grow and plenty of combat.

Though the balance does kinda seem off. Minerals feel like they have way more impact than food. Why farm food when you can buy tons of the stuff for 1 gold per "unit" and just produce the expensive goods yourself which you can sell for a small fortune and use in your own village "for free".

personally I don't like the idyllic valley as its seems rarely have good deposits of coal, sand and clay.

Several people have posted remarks that have nothing to do with what I was complaining about. I'm not complaining about resource management I know that's part of the game. What I'm talking about is allocation of resources on a map and how completely screwed it can be. I gave examples like having 1/2 a dozen clay deposits but only one mineral deposit on the entire map. Or having only one or maybe two spots you can find Willow. Or half of the map being scrub Trees and the only forest is clear across the map over a mountain. Or having only one or two spots to find deer and those being miles away from where they would be useful.
I could come up with many more. That's where the rerolling of a map becomes very tiresome and really puts me off when trying to start a new game. I'm just not going to believe that people here rolled their perfect map the first time, I would imagine several rerolls were required before you found one to settle on.

Voodoojedizin It seems to me you just need to download some mods and put the resources you want where you want them.

There's also the new Customs Setting you can use to increase/decrease resources on your maps.
