Dying from exposure
Anyone having the issue of villagers dying from exposure? Even when there are ample house and temporary houses, fire wood, clothes and coats?

It's a known bug, been reported, Crate is working on it. Have to put up with it until the fix is in. I just had seven people die in year one. LOL. I gave up and restarted the map and it didn't happen the 2nd time.

We do not have a repro for this issue. If you have a save where this occurs, we'd like to see it. You can send it to support@crateentertainment.com.

Saves are located in:
C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\Saved Games\Farthest Frontier\Save
Zip up the entire TownName_###### folder along with the .map file and .sav that reproduces the issue. If the files are too big, you can use a service such as Google Drive to share it with us. If that is not an option, we can provide an upload link through the support email.

Thanks!

An update on this issue. Based on our internal testing of live versus development build using some of the saves provided, we do believe we have this resolved for v0.9.7.

The following are two incoming fixes that should address your issues:
  • Fixed an issue with Temporary Shelters where they would not quality for villagers to use them despite being stocked. This resulted in villagers in distant work sites dying of exposure when it could have been avoided.
  • Optimized villager movement, particularly in large settlements with high populations. This results in villagers being more responsive to their needs and getting their tasks done in settlements with thousands of villagers.

I am also having this issue. Started just recently. Plenty of empty housing, plenty of temporary shelters nearby and en route to remote mining areas, even fully stocked with food and firewood. Villagers, mainly laborers and builders, will ignore these shelters. I have about 20-30 or more villagers dying within seconds in one blast every winter and then smaller single deaths by exposure resulting in 35-40 villagers with a population of about 1525 and cannot bounce back with births, immigration and children growing up. I have tried adding more temporary shelters along routes where villagers were dying and no change. Even building smaller settlements nearby these remote areas (40+ potential settlers, equal or more than the nearby workers) and that only worked for about 4 years in game. I submitted a save file yesterday to support@.

Any updates on this? Just tried playing and lost over 60 villagers over about 3 years, all from exposure, even after adding even MORE temporary shelters.

Maybe a clothing / footwear issue?

As Zantai said fix should be coming with v0.9.7.
Thanks. I have no idea why I thought we were already on 0.9.7. Forgot that hasn't been released.

My recent experience : I have a pop of a little over 5400 now and had a stockpile of over 1100 firewood. Had an early winter, had an unexpected large run on firewood. And the firewood dropped to under 200. People started dying a lot from exposure. I lost 72 during just the first part of the winter, I increased my firewood production by upping the number of people in each building and building new firewood producers. This last winter I had over 1400 firewood and only 4 exposure deaths.

That can definitely be a factor in large settlements, underestimating your town's needs.

But there is also a bug related to villager exposure deaths, as I outlined above, and that will be addressed soon in v0.9.7.

at what age children need clothing and can children be born at the end of the year.
This could be one of the reasons for some deaths
Any update on when 0.9.7 will be released to resolve this bug? I've got over 1000 of game play in and the game is unplayable with my current village when I am losing 30-40 villagers a year to exposure. My laborer count is too low to maintain the settlement. Nothing helps or fixes the issue so my guess is only the new version will.
