Wells need major rebalance
The mechanics for wells have way too many moving parts. The whole thing where wells need trees nearby is absolutely moronic. Eventually the game evolves into a pure urban environment where having trees becomes impossible while maintaining happiness. Also from a realism perspective trees consume water, they don't preserve it. I had a well growing up, trees were bad. Also I think well refill rate needs to be increased across the board. Currently you have to have wells spaced perfectly at minimum range in order to maybe supply a city. Get a fire or two and it can actually be game over. Since wells are 2x2 (should really be 1x1) they mess with city planning in a major way. Essentially you can't allow for any aesthetics in your build because you have to have wells EVERYWHERE.

4 колодца на 250 жителей, 1 рядом с фабриками и по 1 на каждой удаленной зоне, разве это много? Ни разу не возникало проблем с тушением пожаров

no problems with wells and fire mate... mostly i place my city with large line from north to south or from east to west and place wells on both sides of such "large line" and dont have problems, ofc i have some wells near production area, maybe you like to have 1-2 wells for hundreds of people ? looks strange , as people use A LOT OF WATER so yes, we have to place wells everywhere , but as i said - i had no problems with water and i get fire very often , few times every year and still there is enough water

4 на 250 ??? у меня так не выходит... жители потребляют немыслимые объёмы ))) пришёл к варианту минимально близкого расположения по периметру жилой зоны, при этом даже улучшать практически не приходится их

some map like highland are dry and need more this is why it difficulty to get good spot for well if you dont want to have dry place just search map that has more water, i think well is fine as it is in past each home has atleast one, i still can plant some tree, place some garden and house with distance i hate seeing crowd town, i play on small map with 400 population btw. my only complain about well is it need more design so its not boring to see same one with just two rotation.

Wells must be placed close to trees? Really?

not that 'm aware, my wells have no trees around them

The original poster is so wrong (about trees), but so right about needing a rebalance. Seriously, a village of 400 folk needs 20 wells seperated by exactly the 8-10 spaces in order to survive, and the baker(s) will permanently dry up the nearest ?

Trees can help with keeping wells filled but its not a huge bonus and I've yet to have any issues just plopping wells down everywhere they don't overlap. You can replace one house in the center next to the market with a well and some decorations too for even more desirability. The well next to the market also helps with the market workers travel time.

You can limit bread production since bread spoils quickly. You can save a lot of material that way.

The tree mechanic is pretty minor. The seasonal weather bonus would fill the wells faster so having more of them is better than maximizing with trees.

What I do, when I get to a level 2 town center is planting trees around my wells. When the trees are grown the irrigation rises from 50%-56% to 100%

No problems with wells and keeping trees in a urban area, just need a bit of planification.
Most of the time it's adding a bit character to the neighborhood.

If you cut it down, just put the zone of your nearest labor camp lvl2 to grow it back.
I dont know if the nechanic is working with the 5 gold trees tho

Yes it does work. It costs 6o coins per well, to have the well surrounded of trees

it says, too many wells in one area and lack of trees can cause the area to dry out, that's kind of a given, if you place wells next to each other repeatedly that they're going to use up the ground water

This is more of a concern on arid maps than normal or lush. But arid maps are supposed to be the hard mode so you would have to leverage every trick you can so trees around a well would make sense where on a wet map its never an issue.
