The best way I can describe this game since you've only played Sim City would be Sim City but a lot more hands on. You have to make sure your people are hunting/foraging or farming for food. You have to train soldiers to protect them from raiders. You have to have adequate resources so they can survive winter. When people say survival city builder, what I stated prior is pretty much the baseline.
Also, I always recommend checking youtube for gameplay videos and see if its something you like.
While AoE is an RTS (and this game isn't), they have a similar visual feel and the way you build your town has a similar cadence and vibe. If you play with enemy raiders then you will be building and defending your town with a military, just not to the extent you do in AoE.
I specifically bought this game because the graphics and vibe reminded me of AoE II. It is much more relaxing and passive and town-building focused compared to AoE II though. To me, FF is the game I always wanted AoE to be in the early stages of a map before the enemy AI outpaced me and swooped in to destroy my town.
anyway all answer have been given , nothing more to say
use youtube at least to SEE what FF is
