Just seems like this isn't the game for you. Or some others. Different strokes for different folks. And that is perfectly ok.
I don't think this one needs the fantasy element. It suits the niche that it's trying to fit, and I enjoy that. I enjoy fantasy games too, and I have other games that take care of that itch. Not every game needs to have everything for every person. Just play something else.
I would say they need to 1st finish what they have and they could add another down the road if you want a more fantasy style like with magic. Nothing wrong with having a different option once they flesh out the core base game
...but preternatural themes would be period appropriate.

It would be cool to expand on it somehow. Maybe by building shrines to house a relic and then it would give an area buff to something like field yields or respawn rate for deer.
