Farthest frontier is closer to the settlers.
Or settlement survival games. Rimworld is one worth mention. It uses the blocks from anno series which tried to add the military play into it but failed since military is a social construct which doesn't work on colonies who rely solely on protection of the homeland.
Mount and blade has the settlement setting as well so I would say Manor lord is someone taking the settlement piece of mount and blade and made a game about it.
Neither of the games are groundbreaking in any way as both games have been made many times before. It's just strange how it takes so much time to reinvent the wheel when you could just modded anno 1503
I believe these games are a one many army project with healthy idiotics as coworkers.

Thanks for the heads-up regarding Highrise City game. I've added it to my Wish List, and will grab it once it's on sale... I try to get most things on sale.
This game (Farthest Frontier) has the potential to be really amazing. It's in Early Access still, and hopefully the dev(s) are listening to constructive feedback and suggestions. Time will tell.
I will be grabbing Manor Lords when it comes out - it's been on my Wish List for a LONG time.
