Optimal Town Layout
Hello:

I am having real difficulty in knowing how to build residential homes in the most optimal way. Do you just build all the things that boost their level in a central location (Market, Rat Catcher, Bakery, etc) and then surround that center area with houses all around? I guess I just cannot figure this out and end up spending so much money on Rat Catchers and Guard Towers since the town is so spread out.

Help!

This is a good question, I've been struggling with this myself. But have found it most convenient to build all the houses inside the market circles and then surround those houses with the desire boosting buildings. Only because I usually build more markets close to the other markets and eventually the desirable buildings are encircled by your market circles.

Does this make sense?

Have a look at the community content, there are heaps of guides and images to follow that will help get you started.
Really simple. Market in the middle, school and hospital on either side, surrounded by houses. Click on the market, check it's influence/support radius and make sure your houses are within the radius.

Yes, pretty much.

There are some older city layouts here that should still work with a bit of adjustment.

Check out "Artwork" tab under Farthest Frontier Community on Steam. You'll find lots of examples of town builds/layouts. Some very good ones under "Guides" tab as well.

im excited to try a new town, a new mess town! no roads, no gap between houses. Just houses clumped up together within that market zone, parks, theater etc. To get the most out of these houses, beeline and gold.

Build roads. That post you saw is 18 months old.
