Really want to raise max population limit over 1000
I played on Large size map and hit maximum 1000/1000 but I still want to keep expanding my city and now im stuck at 1000 cap so all you can do as a player is divide workers up into critical jobs.

Creating more houses or buildings is pointless since you cannot get new workers to expand production/farm/mine your stuck at 1000, basicly the player has cleared the game and there is nothing more to do outside of making decorations and adding extra walls around the city.

Please increase population limit to around 1500 or possibly 2000 (I realise you cant go super high since it will probably make CPU explode from game taxing your system)

Zantai (dev) has stated that closer to full release the cap will be removed or increased.

the limit is so stupid and boring... and literally no reason for it.

If your worried about performance just ad an option to play with or without it and tell the player about it. "hey if you uncheck this option, you may experience performance issues, we recomend that you dont, have fun!".

thats it,. everyone wins, no one loses.

mods have already done it, its possible, and nothing wrong happens.

There is a reason that maybe you dont understand. This is a common misconception on non programmers.

It has to do with stability of code. Its much easier to trace bugs back to code when its held to a certain range. Otherwise the newer PC players will be reporting non existent problems because their hardware under performs. Once the game reaches a mature state and most users can support a 1000 town with little issues, it means the code is optimized and then further tweaks to it can be made.

Its kinda like the no mods workshop until later closer to the end of development. You see posts all the time that users report bugs when in fact it is a mod causing the issue.

So bug report format would have a question "Do you have this box unchecked?"

Dont see where it would hurt them. Not everyone reports bugs because they dont want to have to join Crates own forum and Crate doesnt want to fully support this forum where they sell the game. Something about "so 70s" or something.

yeah, i really wish they would implement a simple config file where you can change limiters on your own responsibility.
1k is good enough for smal maps, but medium or large? O_o
CaPY Jun 22, 2023 @ 1:11am
Pathfinding will break or some part of code breaks above 1000 so that's what I assume is happening above 1k pop. So that must be why they limit it to 1k.
Zantai  [developer] Jun 22, 2023 @ 6:49am
We will most likely make the population cap an option in the game settings. So if you want to keep your town at, for example, 500, you'll be able to.

You have far too much faith in the average person's ability to report a bug. The typical bug report can be summed up as "this doesn't work", which then requires dissecting the why.

This could be anything from hardware, drivers, other software, a modded version of the game, particular game settings + hardware setup, a misunderstanding of how the game works (ie. not a bug), a specific combination of actions taken in the game in a particular order which results in a bugged issue, or even something done in the game AND particular hardware.

The sleuthing required to get down to the bottom of some people's issues is why we had not officially condoned modding thus far. Mods add a whole other level of complications to debugging a problem and unfortunately many people assume that because a mod exists, then it must be 100% compatible and it doesn't even occur to them to disclose that they used mods or that uninstalling the mods might help.

We've literally gotten support emails about melonloader crashes.

___

The population cap is there because the game is not fully optimized and we didn't want the typical person raging at us because their 2000 population town is running at 2fps. Considering the issues some have with much smaller towns, it was definitely the right move.

It's amazing how the thought of a company having their own website/community is still crawling up your ass all these months later.

It's not like we don't read/respond on this forum and it hasn't stopped anyone from reporting bugs here, which they do.

Nobody has to register on our website. But that is the place they will get the most up to date info and likely a faster response.

I almost never bother reporting bugs. In my experience nobody gives a crap about them. Then again I report bugs related to superultrawide screens.

Software implementation PM here...couldn't have said it better myself. Way to abandon all responsibility in supporting the people helping develop the software YOU asked us for to make your life (or in my case, your business) better.

wow this post went really off the rails......

Just for the record I actually liked the design of this game for the most part, played a couple map builds where get random geography that reflects how you setup a original city layout, killed every raider party that tried to steal my precious gold and made a self running society that mines gold 24/7 that can fill up vaults. Give this game a 7/10 for a fun smaller scale sim builder
