How do I protect my gold from raiders?
I am tired of having them help themselves to MY hard-earned profits.

Walls, defense towers, soldiers.

You can also drag-select your villagers so you can tell them to attack them

For myself this is the best aspect of the game. As time goes on the material things end up easy to protect but the body count is sometimes tough to keep up with.

Depends on village size, up to 175 villagers upgraded towers around the trade depot will kill any raid, a manned town center right next to it helps too (raid size always around 24. No need for walls. Use 1 vault as temp gold storage and pull in the gold every three years,, raiders will come every three to four years, mostly in spring, very rarely in autumn.

You can wall off the trade depot and vault for extra security but it's not really neccessary, you want the raiders running in fast, getting gunned down fast and leave fast, so your citizens carry on working. If you start building walls raiders will always attack at the very spot that has no tower coverage, or the weakest one (fe. just one tower instead of two covering it), which means you'll need more towers, which costs more money and more importantly more workforce. Better to have fewer towers that make a difference and only man them in raider years.

Also the higher in in elevation towers and barracks are, the more damage their arrows do.

I built walls around my vault, built a guard tower next to it and still lost $$ during raids. It's like they automatically deduct $$ when raids happen.

After you build the vault any existing gold that was in other storage stays in that storage until used. Also gold stored in the trade house is a valid bandit target.

I just finished a 30hr run coming back to the game to see whats up. My vault would not accept all gold for some reason, even after all the previous gold was spent. It only stored a portion 15% ish. I wonder if it will not store gold gained from sales at the trader. Have you seen anything like this ?

Dunno if its a bug or not but only gold generated by the market will go into the vault. Trade sales either stay in the trade post or if transferred it goes to storage. So ensure that your normal storage also has a nice stone wall around it. I typically build my storage areas in a preplanned layout so that I can wall them all in.
