Compost Yard
Can I only set one person to work in the compost yard? it seems really inefficient as the compost bays hardly ever fill up with just one little guy running around collecting.

Yep, just the one atm. Been asked for to increase their number, but nothing about whether that'll happen or not yet.

You can download the mod, there are two workers.

Build another compost yard if it starts building up in the town. Seems one compost station per market area is about right.

No, it makes no sense. Even though there are three bins in the compost area only one is ever used.

Incorrect. They will leave one bin composting while they fill up another one and if you leave it long enough you'll see all 3 bins at 100% ready for use.

Well, ok, but if you leave it long enough to fill three bins you aren't running it very effectively. I dump the compost on my farms the second its ready. And its still one person collecting the poop and the one person is only effective on about 20 houses.

20?

what's your definition of effective?

I've had a single composting yard managing over 30 houses with no ill effects and no complaints from the citizens.

Yeah, I thought that too till I started looking at how many houses were loaded with it and not getting picked up regularly. Might be the reason for the occasional disentary that showes up as well.

I duuno. Twenty seemed the right number. Maybe its thirty. Just kind if thinking to keep it matched to the markets to keep it simple.
Might depend on how far away from your housing it is and the position as well. Too far away and they won't be able to pick up from farther houses.

Maybe. I put them with my farms to keep them away from my houses. They have one of the largest negative desirability impact radius. That will increase my travel times.

Mine are located all around my residential area, so each direction has some close to them. I think roughly 20 squares away from the nearest house? I split them around 2 per diagonal axis.
I have iirc 7 to 7-800 pop and see no issues. Excepting needing to constantly dump them, but apparently that might not actually matter?

I haven't gotten that big yet so I'm probably a little more concerned about their impact on desirability right now to have enough houses upgrading for the tier upgrades. I keep starting new maps, lol. 300 is about my biggest so far just to learn the mechanics and then i started over a bit more seriously. Still t2 at the moment. At the size your saying, yeah, I'd probably just build some close by too and not worry about it.

The key is as long as there isn't the red -ve number showing up, it's not too close. And that's it really, you don't have to keep them far away. Though you of course want some buffer space for your own desirability buildings later, but that's not really that much space.
