But neither is alpine valley. Why settle for mid when you can go for best?
No, you are right, said it before in a different post. Idyllic valley is idyllic for those who don´t need wood, iron, gold and sand. You can get lucky .... but lowland lakes or alpine valley are usually far better.
Idyllic Valley lots of times got no water, sand, iron, coal or gold.
"Idyllic" my butt.
I've rolled Idyllic probably 40-50 times now since it was implemented and probably 98% had water visible in the initial area. The rest of them you listed were always to be found on most the maps too.
My only complaint is trees tended to be sparsely dotted around. When I think Idyllic i think largely how they been rolling for me with the exception that I would also expect some lush forests as well.
Sometimes the deer spawns will be several single chevron but I've also been getting enough with larger herds. Ive also made it a habit to leave the small ones alone at the start (if possible) to let them grow some and try to position myself to have at least one larger herd nearby to target instead.
My initial thoughts about Idyllic were actually that it seemed to be very similarly to Lowland Lakes except that Lowland tended to be better with the forests.
I'd honestly be down for them to figure out a way, visually/artistically, to differentiate the two more than they currently are. As it stands right now they just feel like two slightly different versions of the same thing.
Note: I only roll large maps as well.
I had another map that has water everywhere, little ponds, big lakes, my town started on a narrow strip between two big lakes. Tons of ore, but ONLY in one spot on the map. Like 20+ iron deposits.
It certainly adds to the replayability if the same map is that varied,
