Anyone else feel the year goes by too fast?
I really am looking forward to this game through the many more updates I'm sure that are coming. I feel like however the year just flies by on standard speed. Wish there was a way to adjust it through the settings,

Fun fact, when you get older this also applies to real life.

Slow the game to 1/2 speed- you can already do this. Though it is a little weird to see your villagers running in slow motion, lol. Though half-speed is really good for getting some good screenshots of close up life in the village.

And this ^^^- yeah. Some years feel like they just fly by and you miss everything.

I agree that 'normal' 1x speed feels like it goes by just a little too fast but setting it to .5x is too slow.

It true

Yeah It feels fast after with over 600 people, so many things to do lol. But in starting game it feels ok slow. I play 1/2 speed sometimes. Or pause the game for doing multitask then run the game speed. I actually like it goes this speed. Villagers build so fast. XD No need to speed up the game for waiting them to build stuff, which I hated in some other games.

Same here.. Add to the fact that nothing ever happens during winter time, everything gets blanketed by snow( imo is not a pretty sight ). So I always 3x speed it. Then it comes down to only 3 seasons.

It would be a lot nicer if the passing of the seasons could be slowed down independently from the game speed. I don't really like how an entire year passes for someone to walk down a distance what in real life could be covered in less than a day.

I completely agree. The seasons go by too fast. It would be super cool if we could choose in settings if we wanted longer or shorter seasons.

A 20~25% slowdown of the seasons progression would probably be about right. But that throws all the balance off for what needs to be done in a year and would require more time to rebalance it.

Farm and production yields all match the current game year and would all have to be changed if they changed the length of the year. Sounds like a lot of fuss over nothing.
SgtScum Jun 16, 2023 @ 11:28am
Well since it would be a static percentage change much of the rebalance can be done via spreadsheet to mass change the effected mechanics but it would still take some measure of play testing to ensure the changed values are in the right zone. So not a drastic change involving additional months of testing but more testing nonetheless. While I would like a game year to last a bit longer eh its not a huge issue.

I try to play on 1x speed and it still feels too fast =/ I do an overall city check, plonk a few buildings, rejig some things, move a few bits and onto the next year... feels like years are inconsequential.
Because they go by so quick, things like orchard tree season breakdown is meaningless - there is no significant difference between harvesting in april or october((
But to address this and do any kind of fix the entire game will have to be reevaluated I imagine.. i.e. game speed it literally that, not the season length.. wonder if its possible to open up a menu setting to adjust it ?

Game speed is inherently tied to the game's balance. Slower seasons would mean everything would have to happen slower. Otherwise you'd have way more time to produce resources/food. Consequently, winters, where villagers can't do as much, would drag on much longer.

It's not something that can be decoupled from the game speed because seasons aren't just visual, they actually impact gameplay.

However, it would still be good for players who want to add it to the game more slowly. I like to play very slowly. This gives me more control over my settlement and I can enjoy the gameplay better.
So feel free to implement an option to extend the seasons.
I would be really happy...thank you:steamthumbsup:
