Optimal location for bakery?
Where do you think is the best location for putting the bakery?

Close to markets and residents: Long travel time to get the material as flour storage and windmill are usually far away from residential areas
Close to the windmills: Lots bread are spoiled before being transported to markets

Best city layout for max desirability is to put all your services in the center then build homes around them using the odd decoration in the process to shore up areas of lower desirability. If you don't use roads inside your town housing center you can cram a ridiculous amount of housing around an upgraded market and services center and collect much increased tax income and also increase the efficiency of the rat catchers and doctor.

Bakers use up a lot of firewood, water, and of course flour. If you don't have them near those 3 things, they spend most of their time running around rather than baking.

The desirability increase isn't that important imo. You get more than enough from basic sources so I would view the baker increase as a bonus rather than requirement.

I put my windmills very near my town center, where every other kind of storage is also located. beside the city center i have my markets and then my housing. So the bakery I put it near the market. Its near the flourmill, the market, and firewood(stock yard).

My windmills are also far out of town, what I do is build a few granaries next to them that I only allow wheat to be stored in them, I then build granaries in my town and only allow flour to be stored in them. Never had any issues with my bakeries doing it this way

I always place the bakery next to the market. A market in the middle of a residential area. Because the smell of freshly baked goods improves the mood of my ants and the attractiveness of their homes.

On the other hand, if they bake too efficiently the bread just spoils anyway.

I don't waste any space inside the market circle for anything other than a few roads and houses. Everything right outside this range is the desirability places. School, healer, and pubs and as you might have guess the bakery. Who cares about efficiency. Now the mill tends to be a few blocks away, far enough to not have a negative impact, and the well nearby. I am not going to trade that gold generation of the market. I generally end up with 4 markets placed in a grid and so there is corners that have plenty of space for this stuff. The range of the pub and bakery might have lost some efficiency, but I build another one. In this fashion building as many as you want is the right answer. The range of the baker is not high enough to warrant centralizing like say the market. Items like the theater have such a large range that it doesn't really matter, but I still put in the area not covered by the circles of the market. Someone might say spoilage is a thing to worry about, I just never seen that to be a limit. The silly villagers never buy the stuff that is about to spoil anyway.

With that extra gold income I can buy more soldiers or whatever I am short on. gold baby.
