Where Do I Build A Work Camp?
Do I build it in town, and build temporary shelters where I have put the collection circles, or do I build it out in the woods? And if I build it out in the woods, do I build a temporary shelter near it? Forgive my asking but the only thing I could find on the Internet was that you build it by unlocking it, which is kind of a given.

It's like the hunter cabin, you can relocate the resource zone. By placing it closer to what you want to cut, you only reduce travel time to and from the camp to the trees. So anywhere, really.

i just started but according to description, you should put it outside the city then build temporary shelters around it

Thank you both. I started my village over, closer to some water so I can fish and harvest stuff I was missing. Foreknowledge of the map helps a lot. *chuckling* I put my hunter and my forager inside town, so I guess I will try that for the work camp, too. I agree the description makes it seem like you should build it where you want to harvest, but it makes less sense to move the work camp than to move the temporary shelters. Easier to defend everyone, too, maybe.

I only use work camps for distant harvesting so yeah temp homes and a well at minimum and if its a permanent camp to harvest mature trees out of a dense forest then also dropping a hunter/fisher and forager with root cellar and smoker can keep them on site except the once a year stocking of the in town home.

Thank you. That makes sense.

Where to find workers camp? I'm blind, not find it in B build list. 😰

I don't think work camps are worth. It is easier just to clear cut large sections of forest with all your free laborers.

T2 Resources- first one on the list (right before the clay pit).

I can never get them to live in the damn things. they need to add an assign to housing button or something.

Temp homes are only used during extreme weather when they normally seek shelter. They will also go to them for food. So during winter break they stay in the temp home and when hungry they go to it instead of hiking to the nearest food storage building. They never transfer out of their town home.

Just in case- make sure you give your work camp/temp shelter a well close by. The temp shelter at least can catch fire (never had the work camp go up in flames yet- but I am guessing it can too...), and if they are way out away from town- your workers there better have water to start putting that fire out while everyone else runs miles to get there.

When I reach T2, I immediately build 1-2 wagon shop, 5-6 work camps around the map on dense forest. Not too far, maybe 2 screen monitor distance. I place just 1 worker on each. No need to road. I do build wells near it. No work camp unless really far. With this, I never run out of wood and is constantly in the 1k range. When my city grows, I add more wagons and work camps. Always 1 worker since I think its more sustainable. This is about the only reason I choose a large map now.

Work camps aren't particularly valuable in and of themselves and raiders don't go for them so there's no real need to protect it inside your city walls. Same goes for hunter cabins and fishing huts. At least i've never had raiders destroy or steal from them, though they have taken out my smoke houses before. They b-line straight for your trade post/storage to go for your gold and processed materials (planks, preserved foods, ingots, tools).

If you're worried about losing resources (in this case your stone and logs), making sure you have a wagon operating keeps the camp's internal storage as empty as possible just in case raiders do go for your camp. But they have an unhealthy obsession with destroying gates so having gates around baits them away from your buildings.
