Can't find clay. Is there definitely clay on my map ?

Got to tier 2 and, of course, I need clay to build most things. But I have explored a lot of my map and there's no clay. Is there definitely clay somewhere ? Given that I seem to have have no way to walk anyone around my map, what's an efficient way to find it ?

There's definitly not definitly clay on the map, some times there's none. Gotta buy it from the trader.

For those who wondered about the other part of my question, there's an icon on the screen: right-most at the bottom, an icon of a flag. If you put this somewhere in the gameplay area, one of your villagers will eventually go and explore that area. It may not happen immediately or even quickly, since you may be keeping everyone busy, or the weather may be too bad, or they may not have enough supplies to go a long way from the village. So this mechanic does exist and it does work well, I just hadn't found it yet.

it depends on the map you are on as well. Idiellic valley and lowland lakes are the best maps to start on and the other are a bit harder with iron, clay, sand and coal a bit harder to find. Building a trading post/center helps alot on the harder maps.

There are difficulty chevrons on map types, but not really since it all equals out at the trader.

Alpine and arid have a ton of mining nodes so you can set up production industries to constantly buy out what you don't have on the map.

Different map types can excel in different industries.

I'm gradually learning this game, including learning some things which I'm sure will be changed before the actual release. For some reason, in my fourth attempt at playing I've found all the resources I need, and even without them are getting far more tax gold per year than I was in previous attempts. I stand a decent chance of actually getting this one to tier 3. I've had to switch to pacifist mode to play long enough to learn how the game works.
