Woke content

[The Trashman]

This game has a lot of woke content and I think it's important people know that up front, so here's a list of woke ideology the game forces on you. Spoilers in list below.

• ALL characters have pronouns
  
• Female characters are fully clothed. Only nude character is male (Rion, sometimes)
  
• Forced illegal immigration - game requires you to enter a country illegally, and it's portrayed as heroic
  
• Train levels (pro-public transport)
  
• Theocratic fascists portrayed negatively, with no option to join them or fight for them
  
• PMCs couping a country to militarise its natural resources is portrayed negatively
  
• Game is anti-cop. In dialog with cops there's no way to thank them for their service, or offer to tongue polish their boots
  
• One of the main characters is a single cat lady, possibly a dig at JD Vance. The repeated couch sex jokes throughout are definitely a dig at him
  
• Another main character is a furry, with an unskippable 40 minute cutscene where he explains his arctic fox OC's backstory
  
• Act 4 is locked until you submit a 5000 word essay about trans rights

Anything else I'm forgetting?

Also the healing in the game is so broken since you only pay with mana and can rez anyone. Hopfully the game can be patched so you need to rez using freedom dollars and have each person give a credit card after the rez to pay for your service.

Ah, the manifesto bit. Its actually a trap. If you read it backwards its actually a cover to cover reading of Mein Kampf. This allows you to expose those disgusting lefties for the Nazis they are. Finally a game that pushes a sensible political agenda we can all enjoy.

craziest part is that Zan's powers are potentially super strong and useful, but he's so unsure of himself he's unaware of his own potential
...maybe there's a message in that, too?
or maybe I'm just reading into things, but I feel like stuff's so much more fun that way

Not at all, when you first have to put the teams on the board, I wept for the male youth of today. What will become of them without good wizard role models?

From a progressive PoV I'm actually really happy with the balance they struck here. Zan and Jen both have plenty of goofy banter moments and 'oh whoops' bits in the missions/briefings, but both of them are pretty consistently portrayed as competent and experienced operators in their areas of expertise. Everyone is, really. I wouldn't have MINDED if the game was a bit of a clown car party, but TBW actually did a really good job at keeping the lighthearted elements while keeping the team as a credible force, individually and collectively.

WHILE operating within the bounds and hypotheticals of the setting. Nobody forgets magic is a thing, everyone seems engaged with the potential of their powers, we dig into the social implications of magic quite often.

You act like this is a contradiction or zing. Yes, people want law enforcement. People are also realistic about how many scumbags are in uniform. We'd like actual justice, but realistically the people delivering it are incredibly unreliable. Both are true. I like Democracy, but whinge about politicians. There's no contradiction there. Ease up on the boomer lines.

On a semi-related note, that game is beyond beautiful. I highly encourage people to buy it. It is one of the best experiences I have ever had in a video game.

Hard agree. Only game I've ever played that generated emotion through the choice of input method for an action.
