It's true that if you transfer a rocket shot's damage to a rocket turret, it'll deal the same damage as a 3 damage attack. But what if you transfer the damage to one of the level's shotgunners with 4 hp? Well, it takes them out in one shot. So what gives?
What's actually happening is the rocket shot is two different damage instances. We have a 3 damage in the center, and then 1 damage with knockback in the 3x3 splash.
Banks' Transference transfers both of these hits, but they get reduced by armor separately.
Unfortunately 3+1 in a single transference doesn't count as 4 somehow. If you don't want to do one of the tricks in this thread you can also try doubling enemy damage in the difficulty, just for this mission.
Thanks for the insight! I would still consider it worth reporting via the bug report feature, since the description on the rocket says it does 4 damage, so you'd think it would trigger the "transfer 4 damage" goal.
I got stuck on that one for a while too, especially as the Shotgunners also do 3 damage (+ 1 knockback.) What's more, putting Brittle on one of your characters doesn't work for some reason, even though it should increase the damage by +1.
You don't need to stay stuck though - you can do Resurrect as someone said above, somebody wrote a neat short guide with an "outside the box" approach to getting that 4 damage onto an enemy via Spore Bomb, and a couple people chimed in on those comments with other clever strategies they'd used to get it. Spore Bomb worked for me.
Fiddly, but it works.
(And with Genius Grant the transference is refunded.)
I moved the turrets next to each other via portal, and then pushed a guy up next to the turrets, then transferred damage from one turret to the other and threw spore bomb.
it's dumb, bcuase i couldn't figure out a way to transfer damage i cared about, but if you just need to get X dmg, this way is simple. My method lets you do it with the original characters, if anyone cares
