XP: What actually is it?
It feels like the characters gain XP completely arbitrarily, each character having different XP requirements to level up and especially with most of the characters unlocked over the course of the story and many being absent for one mission or another. Is there any actual rhyme or reason to the XP gains? The story is a completely linear progression anyway, and any optional missions, like the dreams, don't award XP anyway.

The XP is basically meaningless. It's there to give you a number that can go up between perk unlocks

so no matter what do do you get same xp every mission?
also no additional xp for dream etc missions? (additional)

XP is balanced in such a way you'll get max level (which is not enough to unlock every perk) by the final mission.

To quote Clive Anderson (or Drew Carey), it's the [game] where everything is made up and the [experience] points don't matter!

Seems silly to even have a fake XP system in that case. I would havr just awarded a perk point every certain number of missions without an xp bar.

Who doesn't like seeing a number go up?
