FlowScape

FlowScape

obj import is driving me nuts
I've been trying to import obj files for a couple of days now and I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I have absolutely no experience with 3D graphics so this program sent me on a journey. At first it seemed simple enough, but I hit a brick wall and apparently I fail to understand the issue I (and others) run into at all.

I watched a bunch of basic YT tutorials on how 3D modeling works and I now understand what a obj an mtl file is and what it tells me when I look at it in Notepad++.

I downloaded Blender and watched some absolute beginner tutorials for that.
I can now make simple 3D models (fun to do), texture and render them, all using Blender and it works fine. But as soon as I export the model to obj and import it into FlowScape, they always turn up ugly, displaced, super dark and some not even visible at all. The model is fine, it's the textures that give me a headache.
It seems so absolutely random what works and what not that I sometimes feel it's bugged if it were not for examples from other people that can make it work.

Same goes for downloaded obj (+textures) from the net. They work fine in Blender (all textures are fine and I can render an image), but I can't can get it to work in FlowChart.

I am confident the mtl file is ok. All textures are in the same folder as the obj and the path in the mtl points to these accordingly. Everything looks ok.

It's becoming a little frustrating seeing it work for others, but I fail to understand what I am doing wrong. How can it be that the very same obj works fine in Blender and not in FlowScape?

I really hope someone can point me into the right direction. I'm kinda clueless atm :KOh:

It's a mystery. I have gotten some models to import (a couple of trees) but mostly nothing works. I have tried ensuring the folder/file contents of the imported models are the same and include .mtl files - but no joy, on the whole, skinless white or black blobs.
PS: Most free models don't include .mtl anyway, and where they do, they don;t work for me.

come to our discord if you are having trouble, most cases can easily be fixed.

or link your mtl and your a screenshot of your folder, that would make things easier to pinpoint any issues you might be having

Sounds like he has an obj import that has no UV mapping, and likely his textures are incorrectly sized (i.e powers of 2)? Also he likely needs to either increase brightness on some textures to match the games rendering engine?

As I understand it, Flowscape does not like spaces in the Material Files and corresponding .mtl references. Rename your texture files and edit the .mtl accordingly and yu should have more success.

Pretty much everyone who has had import problems and have come to the discord, either myself or someone else has been able to point out the problem.
So if you are having issues, just come on over, dont be shy, and its usually something really simple
