Report a translation problem
One idea, if you remember anywhere you've time travelled FROM before the year 1980, there might be a box or a uranium rod left over that the game thinks fell out of the car.
Otherwise, you'll have to either wait till 1990s when it's in the shop, reload an old save, or check bridgetown, maybe bridgetown has uranium back in the 80s, but I doubt it.
Later in the game, 1985 has uranium and even fusion in the shop, but that timeline clearly has more of the wiley eyed scientist's influence than usual :P
