How am I supposed to beat "1 VS few"?
It's always 2-3 ranged that kill my gladiator in a few hits. Am I supposed to not be able to beat this until later? Everything else on the arena is locked and I can't seem to find anything that beats 3 enemies at once.

Upgrade your barrack so you can equip more defensive items and have a potion equipped too.

i always beat my 1 vs few/ 1vs many with archers. just make them either really tanky or be able to one hit, if theyre tanky and do no damage you need stamina boosts as well. plus consumables have high stats compared to item levels so theyre good for when you are stuck.

I just kept trying it until I was given more favorable odds or weaker enemies. Generally with a buffed-out knight with a ton of HP-boosting items.

Put the unit that can best fight the enemy.
[Knight > Archer > Berserker > Knight ... actually many more unit type that I've yet to find all]
That unit suppose to have higher level than enemy. I play permanent death mode so for me is like +3 level from all of them [they have 3 unit lv1 so my unit will be lv 6].

So with my noobish I just wait the time until next championship to train my unit until I have what it take to beat it.

Basically get lucky with a bunch of enemies that you can easily counter with one unit.

The passive trait that heals when you kill an enemy is also pretty useful.

We'll try to balance this out better. Make enemy teams that do not counter every type of unit. For instance you could win against 10 if they are all Berserker orcs so you have some unit that counters them. Thanks for the feedback!

If you've got decent equipment and use consumables these fights can be very easy if you pick the right unit, but if you choose something that's weak against the enemies you'll probably lose very quickly. I think the game could use better balancing overall, and these fights are no different.

Tanky, fast units with a bit of damage tend to do very well (I usually use my Orc or Knight).

I think in the beginning health is most important for gladiators. I have a knight with tons of health and all the best health boosting items and he beats these fights 90% of the time. In fact, the most critical thing is stamina: he often runs out and then fights take forever.

I think at every point health is the most important thing. Time to kill feels way too low in general, units are prone to just getting instantly deleted.

Get a knife throwing granny (you cvan buy them if you have certain guild upgrade) as their main attack makes the oponent fall down and you got a second throw in until the enemy stands up.
