If you want to stay back and use guns I'd get the Skitarii. It's the only one that gets the 20% range damage perk for himself and his construct, IIRC.

Yea when I answered before I didn't know the sub classes had different unique perks and dominus has probably the worst one for a pet build xD

Melee one has terrible starting perk(sicarius?)
Where do you see unique perk for each one ?

You need to create a char and see what it starts with equiped.

Ok i know but every tech-adept can use weapon / armor of other one.

I have create one dominus and i play with the melee weapon now.

But you will never get that "+20% ranged damage" park of the Skitarii. Of course my Skitarii can pick up melee, but if I want my constructs to do ranged damage those 20% extra damage are sweet.

The 30% of your damage bonus as melee damage bonus for your constructs is bad IMO. I played a melee Adept for 23 levels, but 30% of the 15% melee bonus my Adept had just can't be compared to 20% flat ranged bonus.

Didin't play a Dminus yet, but I think that ranged damage bonus is really good if you don't exclusively use melee contructs.

I'm not great at build planning but wouldn't the melee subclass be better for pets end game since there doesn't seem to be a cap on how much it buffs pets?

No, because literally up to 80% of end game damage(if focused on self) comes from damage type dmg increase.

There is no psalm code increasing melee damage, therefore you are forced to rely on low values you find on gear. On top of that, melee tech priest doesn't have survivability needed to actually melee(lv80, tried it over weekend, full defense and health trees don't really help as capped resists and armor still make you melt on as low as +5 missions), the only reason to ever go melee TA is to "tank" for more squishy ranged constructs and to do that efficiently, you aren't going to have much of damage yourself, you aren't survivable unless you heavily focus on pet DPS and get relic armor enchant that heals you on pet heal or are forced to pick specific construct setop for powerful regen enchant, out of 3 starting perks, the one that heals you for 1% if constructs take damage opens most builds and is most useful, I have deep regrets I went for 30% melee one.
Overall the skiitari are the best and ranged are better than melee.

Didn't know that each subclass got exclusive perks, so picked the melee one. Now over level 50 and using only plasma calivers on my inquisitor, with constructs using a mix of melee and ranged.

Not sure if it's worth restarting to get the +20% ranged perk as am fairly happy with my current perk setup: data flux reserve discount; increased overheat level and +5% damage per second when standing still. As the damage perk goes up to +50%, I'm not sure if I'd want to replace it with the +20% one anyway.

Edit: just created a Skitarii character, and noticed that the +20% ranged perk only applies if no enemy within 5 meters.
