You jump back and forth between Japan and Cyberspace, getting to the bottom of mysteries related to EDEN (said virtual world) and it's effects on the population interacting with it.
If you ever played Digimon World DS, on same said handheld, it's kinda like that battle-wise. You encounter Digimon while in "dungeons", and scan them to eventually convert into your own Digimon you can train up and raise. Both in your party and on your DigiFarm. Can have up to 3 Digimon in your active party and several in backup, limited only by how much party memory you have which can be increased by playing the game.
As the name implies, though, Digimon Story places a heavy emphasis on story so there will be lots of running around and talking to people, exploring both Japan and Cyberspace. There's no "world map" like in say.. Final Fantasy VI, but once you choose an area you can run around in it. Depending on your party makeup, you can activate different abilities, too. Like increasing encounter rate, DEcreasing encounters, bypassing locked areas, and so forth.
pretty much just like a simpler SMT. shame
those things are puddle deep, screw that
The digivolutions are: Baby > In-training > Rookie > Champion > Ultimate > Mega > Ultra, and the fusions, and armor digivolution.
Probably the best Digimon game overall. If you like digimon and deph story you will like.
To the op yea it is like a standard jrpg in the sense that there's turn based battles but that would be selling it very short. It has a very strong emphasis on story (and it's actually pretty good for what it is) and it defiantly borrows some systems from Pokemon and improves on them in every way possible. The digivovling/dedigibolving system is surprisingly fun and satisfying it's kind of like a more complex version of the class system in fire emblem three houses.
*picks one out of 4 moves*
no bro it has a competitive scene
*uses stealth rock, then proceeds to pick one out of 4 moves*
deep bro
I'd rather not!
2. Comparing Digimon to Pokemon is a awful comparison because they're not even similar at all and this plays more like Persona and SMT than it does pokemon.
3. You'd be better off watching some gameplay/boss fight clips to get a idea of this game than having eggheads who think this plays and is similar to pokemon when it's clearly not, explain it to you
