Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Complete Edition

Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Complete Edition

What kind of game is it truly?
I remember some digimon games on the PS1 being actually amazing conceptually, but this looks like a pretty standard JRPG.
Any added details?

If I'm honest it's nothing like the Digimon World games on the PSX. Closest would be Digimon World 3, but even then it's so different in substance.

You jump back and forth between Japan and Cyberspace, getting to the bottom of mysteries related to EDEN (said virtual world) and it's effects on the population interacting with it.

If you ever played Digimon World DS, on same said handheld, it's kinda like that battle-wise. You encounter Digimon while in "dungeons", and scan them to eventually convert into your own Digimon you can train up and raise. Both in your party and on your DigiFarm. Can have up to 3 Digimon in your active party and several in backup, limited only by how much party memory you have which can be increased by playing the game.

As the name implies, though, Digimon Story places a heavy emphasis on story so there will be lots of running around and talking to people, exploring both Japan and Cyberspace. There's no "world map" like in say.. Final Fantasy VI, but once you choose an area you can run around in it. Depending on your party makeup, you can activate different abilities, too. Like increasing encounter rate, DEcreasing encounters, bypassing locked areas, and so forth.

that sounds like
pretty much just like a simpler SMT. shame
More in depth than Digimon World 3, Not anywhere near as in-depth as say Pokemon Sword & Shield... It's good, superb even for a Digimon game, possibly best one you've ever played, and it has elements that make people compare it to SMT/Persona, but obviously don't go expecting it to be the best JRPG you ever played, if you want that, the best creature game is Pokemon Sword/Shield out now for switch, I still wholly recommend this game though as a digimon fan.

sounds like you never played one. They have the most depth out of any available JRPG when it comes to all the hidden mechanics and min-maxing... Even as far back as generation 3 has no rivals when it comes to complexity, but now the depth is far beyond ocean deep, you couldn't hope to master the game in your lifetime.

sounds like you're mixing overdesigning with depth
The game system began in Digimon Story for DS but in this game is optimized. Is a JRPG with good story, alot of dialogues, and standard turn based RPG with some mechanics and with digimons. In first game you are a "cyber detective", in the second a hacker (both games happen in same time but with different main characters). When you enter in battle you scan a % of the digimon, if you scan 100% or more you can make him to you. You can have more than 100 Digimons (or more, dont know the limit), 11 in party (3 in the battle and the other in reserve).

The digivolutions are: Baby > In-training > Rookie > Champion > Ultimate > Mega > Ultra, and the fusions, and armor digivolution.

Probably the best Digimon game overall. If you like digimon and deph story you will like.
You can see how the game works in youtube anyway, if you have some doubts

Not as in depth as sword and shield are you insane? That game is a hollow shell with almost no content and not to mention the digivovling system along with ability training is far better though out and more complex than the Pokemon evolution/iv system. I can understand being a Pokemon die hard fan but seriously you need to think before speaking or writing sometimes.

To the op yea it is like a standard jrpg in the sense that there's turn based battles but that would be selling it very short. It has a very strong emphasis on story (and it's actually pretty good for what it is) and it defiantly borrows some systems from Pokemon and improves on them in every way possible. The digivovling/dedigibolving system is surprisingly fun and satisfying it's kind of like a more complex version of the class system in fire emblem three houses.

xD, you people have no clue how IVs, EV, hyper-training, move interactions, and all the works go if y'all think gen 8 Pokemon isn't one of the most indepth JRPGs. SwSh having far more features than any Pokemon game before it as well, not even gonna attempt to explain the new mechanics.

no bro it's deep bro
*picks one out of 4 moves*
no bro it has a competitive scene
*uses stealth rock, then proceeds to pick one out of 4 moves*
deep bro
I feel like you're not getting it. Let me explain a bit. There are moves that do fire type damage and those are effective against grass type pokemon. There are over 20 types. Think about the complexities there. People have made entire charts to graph this out. That's not even getting into Pokemon with multiple types. Then some attacks use attack stat, some use special attack stat. It gets pretty overwhelming which I can see from the posts here. Most people don't get it. It's not an easy game. You can spend hundreds of hours breeding pokemon. Let's say one Pokemon has a high attack stat. We call it IV level 4. Well now you spend 500 hours breeding it with Ditto and then breeding that pokemon with the one you want and bam. You got one good stat. Now do that 500 more times and you will see how deep the game can be. I don't even understand it myself because it's constantly evolving (pun intended). Try it out sometime.

sounds like an really tedious waste of time
I'd rather not!
1. Pokemon is baby's first JRPG and calling it deep is as valid as someone who's only played cod calling cod the most deep and difficult FPS ever

2. Comparing Digimon to Pokemon is a awful comparison because they're not even similar at all and this plays more like Persona and SMT than it does pokemon.

3. You'd be better off watching some gameplay/boss fight clips to get a idea of this game than having eggheads who think this plays and is similar to pokemon when it's clearly not, explain it to you
