21:9 is uncommon, and not used in Japan. games in Japan are just recently making advances into 16:9.... It's kind of on you to have tech for the game you intend to play, or you can get the consoles the games you want to play are on.

How exactly do you know this? Because people do definitely sell and use 21:9 screens in Japan. More and more Japanese games ship with 21:9 support and others have it patched in like in MH:W's case. Sure, 21:9 is sadly still niche but saying it's not used in Japan is false.

We're almost in 2020 now, Japan made advances into widescreen media as far back as 1979. If you want to strictly talk about games then even the GameCube and PS2 had Japanese games that supported widescreen resolutions. It was still rare back then but claiming that they "just recently made advances into 16:9" is complete nonsense.

You're not talking about mainstream japanese titles from like bandai namco, and VNs, there's always been indie japanese developers who try to catch up with the west, but expecting 21:9 support on a jp game is insane.

Um yes I am talking about mainstream titles. Was Final Fantasy XI/XII on PS2 not mainstream? Hell, even lesser known franchises like Star Ocean 3 back in 2003 had widescreen support.

It's really not that insane considering that many big Japanese games now come with ultra-wide support, stuff like Final Fantasy XV, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Monster Hunter World, Yakuza Kiwami, Valkyria Chronicles 4 etc. It's really not that uncommon anymore. It's usually the smaller games that don't support it but that's the same in the west.

well, then you can count this as one of the smaller games. and I mostly only play the smaller games, because the mainstream hype is never worth it. Pokemon has sucked after Gen 3 for instance, but people still buy them up, and final fantasy 14 is the only good modern FF.
