Controller icons. How to switch it properly.
Seems you can switch it by restarting steam, otherwise the game will remember the last controller support you opened while the steam worked. If you have xbox and ps support enabled it will pick which ever it's able to detect first, seems also to cause double inputs maybe or some sort of delay/conflict.

So just only have enabled controller support you want, and restart steam and start the game again for it have the right button icons.

Are you using a ps4 controller, have you only enabled the ps4 controller support from steam settings controller config. Then restarting steam. And then going back to game. Also make sure that the game doesn't detect the controller without steam, you can check that by disabling the controller support in the library for the game, just to see if it's able to use your controller without steam.

Check the PS4 support via BPM - Big Picture Mode - , exit BPM, restart Steam, run the game. You don't have to run BPM every single time in order to activate your PS4 controller.

You don't have to run BPM at all to activate your controller.
The controller activates on it's own the moment you start steam.
The game detects controller button icons via what controller support is in the memory, it probably can detect on it's own controllers too, probably it could misdetect and not choose ps4 controller support if any xbox controller drivers are installed.

I don't use BPM as I have no need for it for anything, it has absolutely 0 value.

I only own and have only ever used a DualShock4 with steam, and have tried restarting steam again and again to no avail. I know that steam is detecting that it's a DS4 because a message always pops up in the corner of my screen saying that those are the controller configs I am using. What could I be doing wrong?
