How did you connect your PS4 controller to your PC? And, starting from the very beginning of when the game loads, where is the first time you saw the buttons? Which screen did they disappear on?
I'll try to reproduce this for you.
This game DOES have PS4 button support!

I had to connect my PS4 controller to Steam via Big Picture Mode, according to this guide: https://www.tomsguide.com/us/how-to-use-a-ps4-controller-steam,news-24039.html
NOTE: The first time I launched the game, it improperly detected my PS4 controller as a Steam Controller and showed me the Xbox button icons. But after reloading the game, the PS4 buttons showed up properly.
One thing to note - if you still have the issue of the buttons "disappearing," it may be because the game is detecting keyboard or mouse inputs, making it switch back to the old button icons. While the game is running and your PS4 controller is connected, try temporarily unplugging any mouse and keyboards or other input devices, and see if that fixes the problem. Something plugged into your computer might be "stuck," and might be sending input signals to the game even though you aren't touching anything.
I haven't had the issue of the buttons disappearing yet, but if I see it, I'll respond to this post and see if I can figure out a fix for it.
1. Disconnect/unpair your PS4 controller from your computer.
2. Enter Steam Big Picture Mode.
3. In Big Picture Mode, go to Settings > Controller Settings, and disable "Xbox Configuration Support." At this time, also ensure "PlayStation Configuration Support" is enabled, and ensure that no controllers are detected in the lower list.
4. Restart your computer.
5. Open Steam, and make sure a window is open. Then, re-pair your PS4 controller to your computer.
6. Open Steam Big Picture Mode again, then go to Settings > Controller Settings, and make sure you see your PlayStation 4 Controller under the "Detected Controllers" list. Also, make sure it is the only controller you see in this list. Disconnect any additional controllers that you see.
7. Click on your PlayStation 4 Controller that appears in this list, then click "PREFERENCES" on the top-right of the screen.
8. Make sure you are able to change the Controller Light Color. Move the bar to a different color, and make sure the same color correctly appears on your PS4 Controller's LED light. Then, pick the color you want to keep, then click "Submit."
9. Go back to the main screen, but don't close Big Picture Mode. Use your connected PS4 controller to open the game through Big Picture Mode.
10. After the game loads, check and see if the button icons are fixed. If they are not, close/exit the game, and then open the game through Big Picture Mode one more time.
After all of this, the button icons should be fixed. If they are not, I don't know how else to fix this.
Hopefully this works for you!
What was happening is that my PS4 Controller and my other Controller that has XBOX buttons were racing to get their inputs of just existing in first and I guess the XBOX controller just had a faster tick rate. Unplugging the XBOX controller fixed it. Dumb issue but if you run into this too, hopefully a saved you some time.
