Let's do some learning! Differences between this and past versions?
So, I loved both Cyber Sleuth and Hacker's Memory when I played them on PS4, and have been excited for this version if for no other reason than to be able to get more friends to play the games (I probably won't be buying it for a while since there's not a huge difference between this and the PS4 versions). That said, there's a lot of questions I have and that I'm sure others would like to know the answer to, so I figured I'd make a topic for asking them and gathering the replies into one nice resource.

1. Is the translation any better than the older versions? The PS4 version of Cyber Sleuth had a ton of little issues, none of which were huge, but they made it obvious that localization didn't receive the time needed to proofread. This included awkwardly split dialogue lines that would have one statement split between two options for response ( https://tcrf.net/images/1/17/Digimon-Cyber-Bug-Choice.jpg ), constantly referring to you as male even if you played as the female character, item names being swapped and duplicated (making 100%ing the medal collection a nightmare), and consistently mistranslating "bakemono" (Japanese for monster) as "bakemon" (a ghost digimon) while talking about the Eaters.

2. Does the PC version look moddable? This is very important if the above hasn't been fixed. I will straight up fix the script myself if I can lmao. I have no idea what engine Cyber Sleuth was developed in, but if it's Unity (though I doubt it) that would make things tremendously easy.

3. Does the combined save feature from the JP version of Hacker's Memory exist in this game? When HM came out in Japan it also included an upgraded version of the first game, and I would assume for ease of development this would use that version as base. It included the new digimon from HM available in the original CS, the ability to change clothes and give Digimon hats in CS, and the ability to send Digimon from one protagonist to the other post-game.

4. What is the situation on the Sistermon sisters? For Hacker's Memory the ability to obtain them was a free early-adoption bonus DLC that I believe was later paid DLC. Also, the Sistermon sisters were subject to some of the most bizarre self-imposed censorship I've ever seen, where Noir was changed to Ciel ( https://i.ytimg.com/vi/tz01oWVrJbQ/maxresdefault.jpg ) because I guess a black habit looks too much like a real nun?? There was some official statement where religious concern was given as the reasoning why, but considering how much religious stuff has always been in digimon it just seems really silly to have changed, and I'd like to know if the west still gets Ciel or if Noir is in there, and if the ability to evolve them is included.

5. Speaking of DLC, while pre-release promotional material has stated the various NX digimon that were DLC for Hacker's Memory will be in the game, no word was given on if the free DLC scenarios for Cyber Sleuth were in. They involved meeting the character Sayo and fighting digimon based on the seven deadly sins.

That's everything I can think of wanting to know about off the top of my head, but if anyone else has questions about version differences feel free to also ask them here, and hopefully we'll all get answers sooner or later!

DLC seems to all be in. You get the NX knights for free, Black Agumon and Gabumon are in digivolution trees. I saw screenshots somewhere of the costume Digimon being in this version.

We definitely got Sistermon Ciel and not Noir.

Combined Saves does work but you have to beat the games to unlock it.

Translation is still garbage. I've been called a boy a few times while playing as a girl character. Galacta Park is still Galacta Park. Half of the text in the Digi-Line text messaging is broken english and doesn't make any sense. Some lines of dialogue seem out of context and likely poorly translated.

Smh no one replying to this thread.

Based on other threads it seems the game is indeed based on the JP version of Hacker's Memory, meaning the first game gets loads of upgrades over its older versions including added digimon and costumes from HM, as well as the ability to transfer digimon between save files.

It also sounds like the game has Ciel rather than Noir, but Noir's files are still in the game, meaning restoration will be easy once there's any mod support.

Still unclear on how much DLC is included, but upgraded CS means that all DLC digimon from the first game are in. No more looking sadly at your lack of Beelzemon Blast Mode.

I wanted to answer to your post right now, at least about the Sistermon situation, but I am kinda glad you found the answers on your own. True, and sadly, Sistermon Noir doesn't exist in the game(?), only the NA version which is Sistermon Ciel. I sped up to the evolution parts and it's only Ciel and Blanc, no Noir anywhere.

I don't think it's going to be moddable at all, and even if they do find the Noir's file, how is this going to happen? Like, are they gonna replace Ciel with Noir in the evolution tabs? Or add a new extra tab - which is impossible as this requires engineering the whole game just for an extra 2 slots - to put her forms there?

In all honesty, I would love to see at least Ciel being replaced with Noir, but that's probably a farfetched goal now. lol

It's not hard to swap one file for another. Noir and Ciel are just palette swaps of each other and don't even contain different statistical information or assets aside from the color, model and name, so you could just mess with telling the game where to get those from. It seems to be one of the easiest forms of modding, since even PS3 games before emulation for the console was any good occasionally had model swap mods show up

Other than that, moddability depends on a lot of things that we won't know about until people start breaking the game open. There was tons of free DLC update digimon that were added after the original releases, and since the games seem like they were made on a bit of a budget I doubt the method used was any kind of super secret proprietary thing that no one trying to mod could figure out. I think it's more of a question of how well encrypted the files are or how hard the infrastructure is to understand without the development tools.

I'd like to know this as well, as I've read that these should appear from chapter 3 onward (IIRC), but being on chapter 4 I have yet to see these dlc quests, sadly, which I also have read that give a good bunch of exp to boot.

Looking from the web comparison, it seems that Noir has a bigger bust size, so there is a small difference between the models too. As you said though it's a matter of people wanting to mess with the proprietary archive used by the game.

I'm very angry for the missing japanese interface though.

Which dlcs are you talking about? I don't remember any that would show up as early as ch.3, as the demon lord side content was all post-game in the original so you'd need to have seen the credits.

Sorry I was sleepy, since I've read on gamefaqs that they appear as whiteboard quests as you progress into the game, I thought you were referring to those, as dlc scenarios.
Slime Drips Oct 19, 2019 @ 9:20am
They were but they show up much later, unless I'm forgetting some less involved whiteboard quests which is totally possible. Haven't played CS in years and it was removed from the PSN store so I can't check the DLC list easily

Oh I see. Are there some limited rewards tied to them? (just in case of them being unavailable here)

With the NX digimon I got them after chapter 3 of cyber sleuth i think? there was a woman stood outside the detective agency who gives you a bunch of them. my teeny tiny omnimon is hilarious to watch.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

What are the benefits of combined saves?

Based on what I heard of the old JP release, let's you send digimon and items between characters. Not sure if anything else.

This post answers a lot of my questions, so thank you! But I'm still not 100% on if the demon lord dlc is in there, though it's understandable if no one has gotten far enough to unlock it yet. I imagine it is but confirmation would be nice yknow?

That leaves the only important thing left being figuring out moddability, which is hard for me since I still haven't bought this version lol. If anyone could post screenshots of the instal folder that might be a help to me in figuring out what file types things are, but in the long run I'd probably have to poke around places responsible for old rips to really figure stuff out.

I once tried to retranslate a poorly lozalized unity game. If I can get my grubby little hands on the script files I will absolutely fix the localization myself.
Missing DLC from Cyber Sleuth:

Agumon dressed up like playable characters
Themes
Free Black Agumon and Black Gabumon
Slime Drips Oct 20, 2019 @ 2:14am
Understandable, since they would be redundant between the ability to just digivolve the Black versions yourself, and that the accessory mechanic means you can probably get the exact same goggles for your agumon as the old dlc had, just missing the shirt
