I've heard some things about "Great on Deck" games that would call to question Valves vetting process in the first place.
https://youtu.be/c6pYG0olgEI?t=1762
edit: Ok.. so Valve's widget for youtube ignores the time code... You have to jump to about 00:29:25 to get to where they talk about the issues they encountered with a VERIFIED game on the Deck.
It would be great though if you could implement 16:10 aspect ratio. It should be easy at least for the scrollable map. In case you don't have enough meat on the 2D-Art please don't crop the sides, rendered black bars are fine in that case.
Hmm, it should already use the native resolution & aspect ratio for the map. I will have to double check that to be sure though (we never got a devkit from Valve either so we have to borrow a friend's, luckily we share an office with the Death Trash developers who have one and kindly share - check out their game if you haven't yet! https://store.steampowered.com/app/941460/Death_Trash/)
You're correct about the 2d Art, unfortunately it was designed at standard-HD aspect ratios so we add the black bars if you're not playing in that ratio (including on PC if you have a 16:10 or ultra-wide monitor). As for the text being too small, if you could let us know which text you mean exactly (a screenshot, or an ingame but report is also a good), we will see what we can do there. We designed the game from the beginning to be playable on the handheld Switch, and so playing on the Steam Deck is also something we want to be a great experience! Still no word from Valve about the supposed 'unsupported' status though...
When the UI prints "New Region Discovered [linebreak] Drylands" the "New Region Discovered" part is pretty small. I can read it and it's not pertinent information anyway but people with less good eyesight might need to squint. I don't think that's the reason for the Unsupported status though, because even if Valve's testers considered the text too small it should have Playable status.
CE2 also has a Gold rating on ProtonDB, according to the reports it ran on three out of four machines.

My guess is that something went wrong with the auto selection of the appropriate Proton version when the game was tested. Currently Valve are reevaluating the 2000 games tested so far. According to this readout
https://steamdb.info/search/?a=app_keynames&type=-1&keyname=530&operator=1&keyvalue=SteamDeckVerified
the number of tested games increased quickly leading up to and just after launch of the device but has been sitting at 2000 for over a week now. I learned from an article on GamingOnLinux that this time they'll prioritize native linux builds where available. This doesn't apply to your game but it does suggest that something wasn't properly calibrated in selecting how to attempt running games when they first tested.
I think there's a good chance CE2 will get Verified pretty soon without you doing anything. Only if the number of tested games starts increasing again and your game still isn't Verified, Valve might require some nudging.
The game is already compatible with Steam Deck, as you can see from the previous messages. We're still waiting to receive feedback from Valve so that it can officially appear as compatible on the store.
