The guns aren't great
I say this because every time i use the guns in the later stages it is impossible you never have to time to aim so you have to get in the enemies face. if that wasn't bad enough i always struggle to grab a bullet because when you move so does your torso in the direction your are moving towards witch moves your bullets back and forth a lot to the point were i struggle to even grab them and when i do most of the time it's not even the bullet i wanted. Not to mention the loading of the bullets is even worse i get that because the guns are powerful you would want them to be slow to use but my goodness it is too slow to justify it's use. My final regards Ether make them usable or don't have them. it is way less stressful using melee than it was using the range.(except bows they are alright because they don't have anywhere near the problem guns have). also if you disagree and want to share your opinion or want to pass on advise on how to use the guns in a more optimal way i am willing to listen because i could only struggle when using the guns.

I think they're perfectly balanced. I was worried introducing firearms to a fantasy game would ruin it, but they're just clunky enough to use that they're a nice bonus rather than obsoleting melee altogether.

For tips, I'm currently carrying a blunderbuss and a bandolier of buckshot, so whenever I see one of those big zombies in full metal armor I can blast them in the face with it, while using a regular mace as my main weapon. For reloading on the move, make sure your character is standing up straight, as it's easy to hunch your neck while playing without noticing it and thus making the player character crouch with this butt further back, thus making it harder to reach the bandolier.

The issue is the limited equip slots, as realistically you'd carry multiple loaded pistols instead of having one pistol with a bunch of ammo due to the 6+ second speed reload time required to shoot a muzzle loader.

It wasn't until the breach loaders that muskets became reasonable to reload in a skirmish.

I think it depends on the map. I'm sometimes using a gun on a large maps where there is a lot of distance from you and oponnets. Also i think that you can carry a gun as an extra weapon - for example on the belt and shoot it when nessecary.

Then it's also very convinient to distance yourself from enemies and load the gun peacufully. But you're right - on smaller maps distance weapon are usuless but it works both sides.

When i see archer - i'm always killing him first - with a one blow. The trick is only to trace him and run at him. So i think there are just few maps where you can use guns - all horse maps and the one with many obstacles.

But the game gives so many possibilities to use the weapon - i was even killing enemies with bow when i run out of arrrows :D

The beauty of this game is that it's pure physics based - so all the rest is up to you. There are multiple ways of dealing with enemies - depending on map/weapon and your imagination.

One thing that can be out of balance - is your armor vs. enemies armors - like yours doesn't protect you as much as them - but in the end - came on - where will be the fun if you're indestructable?

I totally agree that using gun can be stresfull - when you're loading it and in the same time running away from enemies - but it's just keeping the experience more realistic. It's how it was when guns where invented - in one on one combat in ancient times - it was better to choose sword over "one shot" gun. It was also experience during duels - one shot and that's it.

They are not freakin AK47, uzi or minigun :D Just simple one-shot guns.

The one thing i believe could be fixed in this manner is to switch between weapons. Cause sometimes when i want to grab the gun - the character is grabing for example shield, potion or something else - and this is main problem i think - cause you'll not make that mistake in reality. But i don't know - cowboys in early US where also practicing a lot to just pick up the gun and aim quickly. So maybe it's just matter of practice.
