FAQ

Where can I get help for an issue I’m having with the game?
We’d love to help! Before you contact us directly, check the forums. Chances are someone has already reported the issue you’ve encountered and we or someone from the community found a solution. If not, feel free to create a new post. You can also reach out to us via email: support [at] playfulstudios [dot] com.

Also thank you to everyone who’s been reporting issues to us so far! We were able to quickly patch a few minor but pesky bugs that snuck into our launch day build.

What’s the difference between this game and Super Lucky’s Tale?
New Super Lucky’s Tale is a bit of a unicorn. It’s essentially a remake of a game we released in 2017. We’re not exaggerating. We spent more than a year working on a complete re-imagining of the original. Major changes include...
  • Rebuilt camera that offers full player control and rotation. The original original Lucky’s Tale on the Oculus Rift was built for virtual reality. Super Lucky’s Tale was initially going to be as well, but halfway through development it became clear that this wouldn’t be possible. The flatscreen solution we came up with (3 fixed camera angles) did what we needed but isn’t nearly as satisfying as the fully rotatable and much smoother camera you’ll find in New Super Lucky’s Tale.
  • Overhauled movement controller for Lucky. You’ll notice Lucky no longer runs on all fours. While we love the way that looks aesthetically, we love precise platforming even more. But this is about more than just looks. Overall, Lucky handles with tighter responsiveness and generally feels more grounded. Oh, and he can slide now too. It’s pretty fun!
  • Created several brand new levels, like the Harvest Festival in Veggie Village. Also, nearly every original level has been rebuilt. Here’s a before and after comparison of just the first level. And the DLCs are now part of the main story rather than a button on the main menu.
  • Speaking of the story... It’s been dramatically changed, with new intro and outro cinematics, an expanded backstory, new characters, and almost all new dialogue (don’t worry, Master Mittens still says “I VANISH” a lot).
  • Refinements to nearly every other aspect of the game. Including: art, lighting, VFX, sound effects (with some impressive foley work), the soundtrack, character and mob animations, UI, and more[twitter.com]. There’s a whole lotta new pixels in this one.

Ultimately, New Super Lucky’s Tale will be familiar to players of the original, but it’s different enough to feel like a new experience.

Why would you remake your own game so soon after the original?
After we finished work on Super Lucky’s Tale and its DLCs, we began working on porting them to Nintendo Switch. As we did, we all felt like there was an opportunity to accomplish more with the franchise. At the time, a full blown sequel was out of scope for our studio, but nearly everyone on the team voiced their passion for spending time to create a definitive version of a Lucky game.

So we focused on making improvements and adding a few things we’d wanted to include in the original game but ran out of time.

Then came the twist: we received an opportunity to partner with Nintendo directly on the project. With their support, we were able to expand our original scope much further, and the end result is a game we're incredibly proud of, which also happens to be tricky to classify, going far beyond what you might encounter in a Director's Cut but stopping short of a full sequel.

Why do I have to purchase New Super Lucky’s Tale if I own the original?
We completely understand the confusion on this one. There isn’t much precedence for what we’ve done here, which is why we went into extra detail answering the previous two questions. It’s the Persona 5 Royale treatment on steroids.

The simple truth is we self-published New Super Lucky’s Tale and need to recoup the costs of its development. If you liked the original and want to experience it again in a new way — as well as support the development of future Lucky titles — consider purchasing the game. We believe it’s worth the asking price. But no worries if you enjoyed Super Lucky’s Tale for what it was and don’t feel the need to dip in on this one. Maybe we’ll see you again someday at a Steam sale…

Not good enough?
For owners of Super Lucky’s Tale: we’re offering a 10% discount on New Super Lucky’s Tale.

For everyone else: when you purchase New Super Lucky’s Tale, you’ll get the original game and both of its DLCs added to your library for free.

Why did you delist the original Super Lucky’s Tale and its DLCs?
This wasn’t something we planned from the outset. It is unfortunately a rather complex issue due to the multitude of platform and publisher partnerships involved.

The good news is you will get the original game and its DLCs for free when you purchase New Super Lucky’s Tale.

However, if any of you happen to own the original Super Lucky’s Tale but didn’t get a chance to buy the DLCs, reach out to our support email and we’ll see what we can do.

UPDATE, Sept 4, 2020: Due to overwhelming demand, we are relisting the DLCs as free downloads! They are live on Xbox One and Steam now and we have no plans to remove them again.

How can I play the original Lucky’s Tale?
If you own an Oculus Rift, you might already have it in your library. If not, you can find it on the Oculus Store. We’ve also heard of people having success with the fan-made HTC Vive port (but haven’t tried it ourselves).

Will there be a sequel?
We sure hope so!

Where can I listen to the soundtrack?
The oft-requested game's soundtrack is finally here! It's on a bunch of digital stores and streaming services. A partial list is here: https://playfulstudios.com/luckys-soundtrack-is-here/

UPDATE: on Dec 11, 2020, we added the soundtrack to Steam. This version includes a bonus high quality WAV version. Its store page is here:

Is there a media kit with posters and wallpapers and transparent PNGs of all my favorite characters?
Such a specific question deserves a specific answer: yes[drive.google.com].

How do I get a Lucky plushie?
We sell them and more (pins, statues, shirts) at our merch store: https://store.playfulstudios.com/

Where can I get more news and updates on all things Lucky?

Hello. My english is not good, so sorry for any mistake, but I have an important question:

Since the New super lucky's tale package already includes the original game, and his DLCs, all for the same price as the original game, then wouldn't the correct game be free for those who already have the original and DLCs ?? ? Because, in my opinion, the people who bought the original before end up being disadvantaged, since now if they want this version they will have to pay for it too, and those who never bought the original will be able to have it with the complete package for the same price we paid previously only for the original ...
This is my appeal to the game distributors.

Neat the DLC will be free even on Xbone. I can get it there now, I wasn't planning to double dip on the dlc at all. Still wish the original game could be ported elsewhere.

Still wish this release could've been handled better for those who own Super. You made it so that people who had never supported you got the best deal and everybody else kind of gets screwed for supporting you. I get there are contracts that make things more complicated, but that's just how it feels regardless.

at least the DLC is accessible again without buying New. That way anybody who didn't manage to grab it can still get 100% in Super without needing to buy the package.

Is there a way to enable PS4 inputs for the game? I use a DualShock 4, and while it works with the game, it'd be better to have PlayStation inputs instead of Xbox ones. I figure since there's a PS4 build of the game that there's got to already be assets made for those inputs.
With all due respect, this game would have been phenomenal if you gave it the same difficulty that you gave Gilly Island. The game is otherwise an absolute flatline in difficulty, and feels like the same challenge for every world, and every level within. It feels like potential lost, and something that could have certainly been adjusted in NSLT. Challenge is the talk of the town when it comes to video games, and here, there just isn't any challenge, which is why word of mouth really isn't happening for the game. Regardless of the age group you are targeting, the game needs to have some sort of difficulty curve...
thanks for the free DLC`s but 10% off for owner of the original is a bit lame. peoples who buy it now get two games and we pay just a bug less

it's sad that Super Lucky's Tale is Dolby Atmos enabled (my soundbar detects it) and this one isn't :c
