I've been researching on how to get past through the damn vents in prison to get through control room :( thanks in advance

If are able to get through into the sewers - the first tunnel with the rats - there is a small grate in the top right corner. Place the ladder underneath and use the captured rat (Trap = Metal Crate + stick + rotten apple) to scare away guards, then use the wrench to loosen bolts and climb through.

I was really hoping there was a more logical answer than "scaring away the guards". I thought I was supposed to use the paint on the rat, then follow it's trail through the vent.

I already resorted to the walkthrough to get the key, now again for this part, but this is simply not working at all. Whenever I try to use the rat he just says it will get lost in the vents.

Anyway, I have no idea why this isn't working, any clue?

-Ok, apparently I'm looking at the wrong grate, thanks to "The Hidden Object Guru"s video to clarify. Yeesh...
