What DLCs would you recommend ?
Hey,

I'm new to the game and would like to buy a few DLCs during Steam sales, prices are very nice.

The best deals seem to be the "SJP" packs, which include jigsaws from the previous game if I understand correctly. They contain 30 puzzles each, which is more than the other DLCs.
Would you recommend them ? Do they have the same quality as the more recent DLCs ?

Other DLCs you liked particularly ?

Thanks :)

My favourites are anything food-related :CherryCreamCake: Those ones also tend to be colourful and have interesting images. If those appeal to you, then I recommend the Sweets, Vegetables, Food, Ice Cream, Fruits, and Mushrooms DLCs.

The Colourful DLC has good puzzles. I think there are three packs by now. I like the different countries packs as they contain a good variety of images typically associated with a particular country. Also the seasonal packs, e.g. Halloween, Christmas, Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter; various animals (there is a really cute baby animals DLC), Abandoned Places, Sunsets, Beaches, Cities, Flowers are among the DLCs I enjoyed the most.

The developers have improved a lot since the early days. Many of those images aren't very good for jigsaws, e.g. one colour dominates the entire picture. I seem to recall one particular puzzle which was predominantly a blue sky with a bird in the corner.

Back in 2020 I bought a pack containing a selection of DLCs. I don't think that particular pack is on sale any longer but it contained the Trains DLC, and I somehow also have a Boats DLC and Airplanes DLC which I don't remember buying lol. I don't find cars, trains, planes, boats, mechanical things etc interesting or enjoyable images for jigsaws. Black and white images also are not fun for me.

You'll be able to try out every new future DLC as the developers are very generous and give a free puzzle to all players every time they release a new DLC. They are also receptive to suggestions from players on ideas for new DLCs.

Like Sootopolis said, you want pictures with lots of different colours. These are the most fun imo, too. Unfortunately the "good" pictures are spread between different dlcs. E.g. I loved doing the 800 pieces puzzle of the spanish flag, but the Spain DLC does not offer many more pictures that are really fun to do with 800 pieces.

I totally agree with your comments regarding those puzzles with one predominate colour. I find them boring, but they continually release many of those photos in their DLCs. As for the "Free" photo with each DLC. It appears you've been led to believe you're getting something for nothing, a typical ploy which still misleads consumers after decades of use in the retail world.
You get nothing for "free" You pay for each photo in every DLC. If you buy 19 for $10 photos and a supposedly free photo, you've purchased 20 photos which cost you 50 cents each. Not a bad deal for the seller when each photo is downloaded at zero cost. There are literally millions of photos on the Internet which are copyright and royalty free. I discovered this a couple of years ago when I decided to DIY my puzzles. I began downloading these true "Free" photos and with every one of them I edited to remove large areas of any predominate colour. EG: Sky, ocean and grass etc. I now have well over half a million puzzles to choose from. Strangely I've yet to get bored with Jigsaws. During my searches for suitable photos I came across many I'd already paid for when I purchased the rather expensive collection for this puzzle software.
All they cost me now is my time to download clean, crop and enhance each of them. I use AI software which can increase the resolution up to six times. It makes a 720 photo look more like a 4K photo, the difference is truly astounding, plus it makes the photos perfect for jigsaw puzzles.
For nothing more than a Change I return to Generations to solve all those puzzles I purchased, but didn't use. I even purchase a few DLC's when they're rather less than the almost $14 they ask when newly released and a few photos catch my eye. I also enjoy turning vintage family photos into puzzles for my sister. Luckily Dad was a good photographer and it's great to see the old grainy B/W photos turned into crystal clear puzzles.

The free photo with each DLC refers to the photo that turns up in the free section each month, with the DLC release, so there is a free photo, but you won't see it in the DLC pack, you will see it in the free photos section.

I enjoy the colorful packs best, i was the one ages ago to suggest many of the same item but different colors as a theme, previously it was only a pic or 2 in each pack like this.

Each time they bring out a new pack for sale you get a free pic added to the main game that is related to the pack but not in it.

When you complete a puzzle you get coins that you can spend in the shop of the main game to unlock other pics.

If you want a good deal wait for a sale, many of the packs are 80-95% off. Also look down the list there are some free packs.

The random packs usually have 30 pics in it.
