Super Jigsaw Puzzle: Generations

Super Jigsaw Puzzle: Generations

3 detailed suggestions for improvement...
#1: Disable pieces automatically locking into place unless they are touching another piece that is already set in. With exception to the corner pieces of course.

Reason: It's not realistic. When you do a real tabletop puzzle by placing a specific piece in the middle of nowhere thinking "I'm pretty sure that goes there" it's still really just a guess. That "guess" doesn't actually get validated until you connect more pieces closer to that spot that you "believe" is correct. In this game, the lock-in is that validation. It should not happen until you have other pieces there to prove it.

Also, if you happen to accidentally drop a piece in the right place by pure chance, and the lock-in happens by surprise, then you start to think "Well I guess I don't have to solve that.:steamfacepalm:."

Simply put, it ruins the fun and enjoyment of actually trying to figure out if it really goes there or not.

#2: For those that do like doing the edges first, there should be a option button to hide all central pieces and only show the edges and corners first, until they are completed. Then it would automatically reveal the rest of the pieces. Again, most, but not everyone, likes to do that. So it should be optional.

I myself spend about 75% of the time simply moving the pieces out of the way so I can get to the edges. Sure that is realistic as that is the same thing you have to do when you dump a puzzle box out on the table. But a computer monitor is not the same as a table, which leads to...

#3 Need more work space around the puzzle area for sorting pieces.

I hope others like these suggestions. Piece! LOL I mean Peace!

Hi AlconburyBlues!

Thanks a lot for the suggestions, we take note of them. We'd like to add in the future more options to adjust the difficulty to each player preferences.

Anyway, if you adjust the Snap Sensitivity to 0 it's pretty difficult to drop it on its place by pure chance. Check if that helps you with your game feeling ;-).

Thanks for playing!

Thanks for the reply. I hope I was clear enough to understand what I was describing. Adjusting the snap sensitivity works for the "pure chance" part, but then it makes actually connecting pieces way more difficult.

But I hope you understand, if I'm putting down a piece to connect it to another piece that's already there... That is the only time the lock-in should happen, other than placing the corner pieces by themselves, just like a real jigsaw puzzle.

On a computer puzzle, it's way too easy for the player to take advantage of the always-lock "glitch" and get lazy. What I mean is, when the player gets frustrated, all they have to do is randomly click and drop the piece a dozen times until it locks. It completely takes all the fun out of figuring it out. You are no longer using your brain to solve the puzzle, which is the whole point of classic jigsaws.

I described my primary concern a little differently. I hope that helps.

Sorry forgot one other thing. When using windowed mode, on every game launch you have to keep resizing the main window to what you want, because there are no resolution settings in the game.

Hello

Another suggestion : add the possibility to do 600 pieces puzzle. That would be really fun !!
Barda'mu Apr 7, 2020 @ 11:43am
And more trophies !! One for every puzzle, when it's done with 400 or 800 pieces.

Last thing for me : add the possibility to erase the separation between two pieces after junction. So that the picture would be more beautiful (especially for the 800 pieces puzzles, with more... junctions).

Sorry Barda'mu. I was describing a specific problem for them. You might want to put your ideas in a new post of your own, or they will never see it. Great ideas though. I like the last idea you mentioned.

Don't worry, we are reading, and we always consider your suggestions ;-)

Sorry, AlconburyBlues, and thank you, Flat Cat Games, for reading me ! My English is not good, so that I thought it was the good place for my post. I apologize...

Rotating a piece while holding it would be stellar..

lol...although it does seem like a little cheat, i really love the auto-locking, so if you do create the option to disable, pls make it an option, not a change to the base game.

for the edge pieces - i'd really like the option to have all the edge pieces mass transfer into middle of the puzzle box so I don't have to sort them at all. i like placing the pieces - not so keen on the sorting

regarding sorting space - i think about 20 boxes are needed rather than the 7 provided. i'm only doing 400 piece puzzles and using all 7 boxes. i can't imagine even trying the 800 piece puzzles. also, it would nice if pieces sorted on the left and right hand side of the puzzle box didn't get jumbled up when exiting the puzzle.

@aphfid, Yeah it is kinda like cheating and I like the auto lock as well. But only when it's touching other pieces. That was my point to the devs. Which apparently they did not understand.

A piece placed in the middle should not lock when it has nothing to lock to. Can't be easier said than that.
