Is the game on a timer (darkness)?

Hey, so I've read that you have to avoid dark places. Does that mean that most rooms are on a timer? I watched a few gameplay videos but they are all from the beginning, so I am not sure if the mechanic is being introduced later. Most rooms seem to be dark, so I am not sure how to interpret this description. Not a fan of time limits in games though. Stress and fear are 2 different concepts

Hey! Sorry for the delay - The mechanic it would refer to is that if you have your "Life" unequipped for too long, you'll die, Which is on a timer. You just need to re-equip the life to charge yourself back up.
