Doing a Grandia run with just Justin
Having a blast up until a certain VERY speedy boss which is Saki

Trying to not over grind, Justin is level 10 as I reach this place, mostly just fighting all the monsters I see, as he needs extra levels and skills as opposed to a normal play through.

But ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ am I getting my ass handed to me so much I had to actually bring my other party members to life. RIP 0 xp Sue and Base Level Feena :(.

There's nothing to grind levels on at this stage, so it was either that or soft lock my play through. The boss allowed me the first turn (free), and I had time to squeeze in ONE more turn between the fast barrage of attacks.

Any other places that eluded my mind where I might run into trouble of not being able to grind any more should I need it?

If so, feel free to name areas below, and possibly with a spoiler tag, just in case someone hasn't played and reads this

EDIT: Reaching the last boss in this area also made me realize Grandia has a worse RNG system than any other RPG I've played. With combat RNG determined only by entering and/or exiting another combat. So I'm truly softlocked in a full party sleep into full party stun every time I go up against that boss. RIP run I suppose :(

What's your actual approach to the fight? Are you just going straight in to deal damage or are you attempting to buff yourself?

I'm assuming this is in the military base before you steal the train?

When I want a challenge I tend to just play Grandia Redux (I believe it's available for the PC version now), solo runs can be fun but I find it hard not to end up over powered as Justin when you get Gadwin's move. It's just ridiculously easy to level up weapon skills and fire + earth, you end up an absolute power house with very little effort.

Well. I had to start out with ZAP! to take out the guards, or I would NEVER have another turn.

The IP loss was just too great to even take her down, given the fast IP gauge of her.

I managed to finally take down the last fight as well by using some random items from my inventory to change the RNG for me to resist the sleep of her Balloon move.

I think as a solo Justin it doesn't really matter how strong you become in the end, as you will be constantly taking IP loss after IP loss when the enemies beat you up.

I might give Redux a try, thank you!

Prior to that point you would have had a chance to massively boost HP via exploiting a certain ruins traps and nearby save/recover point with your healing ability.

When I did a Justin only run that's what I did anyway, I also farmed for the mace from the Orc's and built upon that heavily. Granted I was roughly level 13-16 at the point you're talking about, if but with skewed stats.

That said once you get Gadwin's move a little later on you're essentially immortal to most things. You could avoid using said move but why?

Redux is the better focus if you want a challenge.

I am trying not to abuse getting +100 health from water magic, rather have my magic levelled up during combat or after combat, not resting and grinding at every place. I was level 10~.

And yeah, the Gadwin move will essentially speed it up a bit, however - as I don't grind out for long periods of time, rather progress to keep things somewhat interesting, the fight in question just took me surprise as there was no way to not be cancelled/IP Lossed over and over.
