Why the PS1 port?
After finally deciding to try the first Grandia game I searched around a little. In a (now seems to have been deleted) video on Youtube that was a bit over 4 hours long. These 2 people showed the Saturn version alongside thePS1 version. The Saturn version just overall seems to be the better version and what should have been used for the 'HD Reamster'.

The only reason I can think of is that the PS1 files are much easier to work with and port over. It would have probably been far more costly to do a Saturn port, though it would have been much appreciated.

I also would have preferred a "no art filter" toggle in the options for easier access to the original visuals. I greatly dislike blurring old artwork to make it look more "modern", much like what Square Enix did with their terrible mobile phone versions of several Final Fantasy games - which are what we got here on Steam. What an insult to the originals.

Give fans a chance (and SOME help) and I'm sure they could have ported the Saturn version (and updated the textures and everything). I mean, they've translated the Japanese Saturn game AND managed to add English subtitles to the cut-scenes after reverse-engineering them. My personal opinion (which means pretty much nothing) only the FMV cut-scenes look better then the Saturn's.

The PS1 port is still playable (and the changes made cause of different hardware is understandable) but they really should have used the Saturn version. At least Grandia 2 used the Dreamcast version over the original PC and PS2 ports.

It's unlisted for whatever reason.

Thanks for the links. I tried searching on Youtube but it never showed up in my results (it just showed in my recommended section I think by chance the first time). I know the PS1 version is perfectly fine, just many tiny details that make the Saturn version look a bit better. I understand that changes had to be made to port it to the PS1, Grandia was developed FOR the Saturn hardware. One thing missed in the second link but covered in the video, in Port of Parm, a triangle of the fence vanishes from a certain camera direction.

It's a fairly simple answer as you can see the answer your looking for is:Because

The Saturn is insanely difficult to port from, that's the main reason.
