Possible 2x with CheatEngine's Speed Hack

It's possible to speed up the game using Cheat Engine's traditional speed hack. Music and voices stay the same. Voices get a bit cut off if playing at higher speed, but there's a toggle option you can use, so you can play at 1.5x or 2x (or more) but keep voices normal.

As long Cheat Engine is not blocked on this game. Also when using CE2 just do not whine the achievements do not work ;-D

I doubt that CE has anything to do with Achievements not Working, I'm not using it and get no Achievements

I'm sure he was talking about CE2 in general with Steam games. The current achievement bug is a wonderful gift from the devs.

having never used cheat engine before, where do I find this option? I installed it and am kinda lost.

No, nothing like that. There's a checkbox called "speed hack" with a number slider. Google search "cheat engine speed hack" and look for images, and there you have it.

You just have to open the game and cheat engine. Then click the computer icon on top left (search for a process), and select the grandia process. Then, click Enable Speedhack, put a suitable number (1.5 and 2 are fine) and click Apply. And voilá.
