Honest opinion PS1 vs. PC
Can anyone that has played the PS1 version and the PC please give me an honest opinion of which they think on the whole is the better version? I own two copies of the original PS1 2 disc game and I'm wondering if buying the PC version is better.

Try to discount the extra faff that setting up a PS1 these days is.

Thanks.

The undub version I used was trash, only part of the battle dialog was Japanese, the rest of the attacks were English.

Eh I am just going to wait for the patch that supposed to come out in November that will hopefully solve the performance woes with this remaster.
As for emulation it has its pros and cons, main one being is all the toying around you have to do with emulators to make them work properly, there is a lot of fine tuning involved.

The patch in November is for Switch version of the game, so i wouldn't get your hopes up. https://twitter.com/GungHo_America/status/1176150493451694080

Use your original discs with PCSXR + PGXP or Retroarch w/ Beetle PSX HW for perspective correction, widescreen support, and decent downsampling. I use original PS1 discs with these emulators all the time but lately Retroarch with Beetle PSX HW is giving the best experience.

I would expect the PC version to also get patched soon after since it has the same bugs as the Switch.

Textures are messed up on PS1 port(which hd ia based on and still has the issue) and is missing shadows.
I don't know why devs always chose the inferior version of a game for hd collection.

Probably because they don't have the source code for the Saturn version.

I am playing the PSX version on epsxe in my tablet (because the spanish fan-translate). I'm really enjoying the game. If you speak English don't worry about which version to play, they're all good with or without enhancements. At the end of the day, it's a 1997 game and no matter how much the graphics are improved it's not going to look like The Witcher 3.

PS1 version doesn't have broken spells either

Sega Saturn version still best. Emulate that instead.

At least name a game that looks good. Witcher is ugly as buttcheeks.

I'll keep my cute charming 2D pixel art and dank portrait art.

Speaking of graphics. The Saturn version is superior. better looking battle arenas, textures field water effect, in-battle special effects and things like a, sky with clouds.

Due to PSone's limitations, they had to reduce/limit a lot of things. Lots of fans weren't happy to find that they were utilizing the source code of the PSX version.

theres literally no difference between the saturn and ps1 versions. they are identical. well, almost. the saturn has a sickening level of post process sharpening filter added onto every game by the system itself. really brings out the flaws. but thats more of an issue with the saturn itself than the identical port.

edit: if you want your game to look like the terrible looking saturn version, just use reshade and slap lumasharp on with the strength maxed out.

sega saturn is the best, I can't stand some of the music in other versions........so there is that. :steamsad:

graphic wise by 2020 standard they are all tragic

this reminds me how bad SRWF's music was on PS1.... and bunch other games. Saturn was a 2D game beast... sadly time was moving to 3D.

with sega building closing down in TOKYO last month, it's sad. It's the most innovative gaming company till it basically died in 2005. always pushing for new ways to play, it's been clinging onto their last breath for the last 15 years.

It's a cost issue, nobody would go find the SS code & try to port it over when you need to spend twice amount of time and money to do it. Porting from PS is done time and time again & ppl know how to do it quick & easy. :mhwgood:
