How much of the story is complete (I read it for the articles, I swear!)

That doesn't seem true, yeah it's been 2 years.

3-5 years for a game that's mostly a visual novel is quite a lot sure, but it's a full 3D animated visual novel not 2D anime.

And the gameplay is not just a complete tacked on excuse to call the porn a game, it's genuinely a game, with 2 simple but actually thought about and balanced systems.

The studio also never made a game before and progress on this more or less stopped early on and as far as i can see they basically just hired some people with actual game dev experience and now progress has been chugging along nice enough, at least based on the patch number being 0.8 now.

Same, and how it should be done given some people seem to have no concept of what early access means and complain about the lack of content.

Its funny, I bought this when it launched in early access, briefly tried it out like I do all EA released games. But I have found that I do that with most if not all EA games. I think I just like to know I have it and can follow the full progress as they become full games. I am excited for them to finish this, until then I have Baldurs gate 3.

I bought it on early access release and put about 16 hours into it doing the available content at the time. What surprised me about Subverse is the story is actually pretty good. I don't regret the purchase. Voice acting is also great; but I think an irreverent sense of humor is required.
