Cutscene lag, how to fix?
Sup

My game when i have any cutscene starts lagging and then the audio cuts and i cant hear anything, is kinda like a fps drop but theres no fps dropping (checked it)

OS Win10
My computer do have the specs to be played, tested with graphics on high/medium/low and w/e the problem still happens, so i believe it's not related to my computer specs.

Do you guys are suffering this too? Does it have any fix?

I do not have "Microsoft H264 Video Decoder MFT" in dxdiag, and my registry is missing one line "EnableDecoders = 1". How would I go about installing the decoder on Windows 7?

Alright, I've done some testing and researching. From what I can tell, Windows 7 does come with H.264 support built in, but it's named differently than Shockwave is expecting. Evident by the videos playing at all. I tested against this by installing a known incompatible H.264 codec (LAV's included in Sharky007 codec pack) which broke my videos, giving me a black screen instead. Turning off LAV's and going back to stock allows the videos to play again, just again lagging.

I also found out Windows Media Player 12 updates the H.264 codec, probably to the naming convention Shockwave is looking for. Unfortunately, Microsoft removed the official update to get it, so I haven't been able to test the updated H.264 codec to see if that fixes the lag issues. If someone can find that updated codec and can try it out, it could be a hint at fixing the problem.

It's a hard drive issue. I tested it on the same PC, once with it installed on HDD and once with SSD. HDD = stutter and lag, SSD = silky smooth, oh yeah.

Lol no. At least not for some of us. I have the game installed on a Samsung 850 EVO (SSD) which should be plenty fast enough. I have no HDD's on my system.

Nah, i play this game on ultra quality from HDD, no lag. i5 CPU and GTX1060. 1920p 60 fps VSync enabled.

I have also never downloaded and installed manually any codecs.

Oh wow, didn't know that it was completely removed from Windows 7. And yes, you're correct UE 4 built-in Media Framework should use default system codecs. At first I thought that this game was compiled and packaged in a really old version of UE 4 that had TONS of issues with MF but from the extracted resources I can see that it's packaged in UE 4.22, which is not super old and should have all the issues in MF already fixed.

Also KB968211 for Windows 7 seems to be still available on softpedia site, if someone wants to experiment with installing it :)

same here, what is happening is during cutscenes new info is being loaded into RAM in the background causing hitching.
Do you have DDR4 or newer RAM?

Make sure you're not using anything that is injecting anything into your programs. I had this issue and was using my sound booster, I disabled that and was good to go immediately after restarting the game.

I had the same problem-
First -force-d3d11 in launch options did nothing, but then I downloaded the nvidia 465.89 driver. Nothing. But after that I tried -force-d3d11 in launch options and it works. No lag in Cutscenes. The weird Sound and video stuttering is gone

A driver update + forcing d3d11 fixed it for you? That's interesting. Is there anything in your driver notes mentioning fixed compatibility with videos/unreal games/subverse?

I have the 465.89 driver and it does nothing for me, with or without the -force-d3d11 I still have stutters. There is nothing in the 465.89 release notes that would suggest a fix, as far as I can see.

I noticed that the stutters vary. The first time I play the opening cutscene, it is not too bad, but when I hit ESC during the cutscene and restart the mission (which restarts the cutscene), the second time around the stutters are worse.

For me, I still think it's the CPU not being fast enough to handle playback + background loading, but for others it might be something else.

Today's new patch has the option to switch the cutscene videos from 4K to 1080p resolution. This definitely helps in making the experience more stutter free, although I can still reproduce slight stutters when breaking off the opening cutscene and restarting the mission.

For me, it is now in an acceptable state. Awesome work!

Seriously, this has been a topic since the first day of launch, why are people still asking questions on this? A lot of people are having lagging/stuttering scenes.

1080p vids seems to have fixed the problem for me too.

indeed, changing to 1080p vids in settings worked!!!!
