OMSI still is the King of bus simulators. It was designed by two college students at the time who were actually bus fanatics which explains why OMSI is so good and when you think about it, was far ahead of its time back in 2013 when it was released.
The bus physics are simulated perfectly, there is real weather, real-life ticket IBIS machines, real-life 1.1 scale route maps. Most maps are the real thing as in the real world. Every knob and switch is usable. Yup it's the most realistic bus simulator to date and nothing will ever topple it. All the other wannabe bus games are arcade or simcade at best.
It may not have the Unreal/Unity graphics of today but who cares, it's all about the realism. That's why people slate it because the Sim is too big and confusing for them.
Oh, and by the way, OMSI doesn't have silly point scoring and achievements, no leaderboards like all the other wannabe bus games have, because OMSI is 100% simulator.
with omsi, it's like playing 20 years ago. No, thanks.
Stringbean dear,
Being over 60, an ex-truck driver and very fortunate indeed to have logged some hours at the wheel of the once real life king of coach-buses Mercedes 0303, I have, naturally, first hand experience as to what feels realistic and what doesn't.
Please, read again carefully my post and you will see that nowhere I questioned the realism of OSMI, but only stated the obvious: that OMSI is technologically outdated, i.e. add a few add-ons and it takes ages to load, it crashes easily and ,alas, it remained a 32bit application!
Besides, if as you write, you believe that "All the other wannabe bus games are arcade or simcade at best", why are you here using this sim?
I believe that old guys like me and you, should admit that things move on, that technology advances and should try and cut our bonds with a past we tend to be emotionally linked to.
Cheers!
......and nowhere in my post did I say you did, and who cares about your age. Please read again carefully, I merely pointed out my reasons as to why OMSI is still the King of bus simulators (in my opinion). If your OMSI Sim keeps crashing, then save some of your pension and get a decent PC instead of playing on a potato laptop,
All the best to you and have a nice day.
I'm really sorry that I pissed you off, I did not mean to, I just had to state facts.
By the way, I 'd like to inform you that 32bit applications like OMSI are considered obsolete by today's standards and may crash at any moment on any PC, "potato"- or high end one, regardless.
Meanwhile, I suggest that you forget my age and try and enjoy this new, very realistic and very nice "Bus-Driving-Sim 22", that hosts both of us, as much as I do.
Cheers.
Please don't use foul language and be respectful.
Respect should be reciprocal Stringbean dear.
-1. Excellent physics (like many OMSI buses)
-2. Stunning graphics (like BusDriverSim,some OMSI maps,"The Bus", "Bus Sim 21")
-3. Modern and stable graphics engine (unlike OMSI's)
-4. Excellent performance even at high settings (on my high performance PC (of 2016) at
max graphics settings, I experience gaming of very high FPS.)
-5. Three countries each one with urban and countryside regions. One of them very very
original.
- 6. Original effects (doves flying, dogs chasing cats, flocks of sheep crossing country
roads...)
I hope this list will do to help people who are still uncertain as to what Bus Sim to get, to make up their minds.
My best regards
I'm kind of looking at something else for more bus gameplay though, but I can't really pick between the 2 games. This one has what looks like dated, old graphics. The Bus looks far better but it's only Germany, and also the last time I checked there's no penalty for anything.
What do you mean when you say more bus gameplay? Are you looking for a simulator or more of an arcade/simcade type of game that adds achievements and leaderboards e.t.c.?
OMSI and The Bus are Bus simulators, the rest, including BUS Simulator 21 are more arcarde, more chilled out experiences with minimal fuss in their setup.
I recommend "Bus Driving Sim 22", which incorporates something from all the rest. Anyway, having real life bus driving experience, I assure you that simulators no matter how advanced, can never substitute the feeling of driving the real thing. So, compromises are unavoidable.
In short, IMHO, "Bus Driving Sinulator 22" makes the best of both worlds, simulation and gaming.
