The game only support official xbox360 and ps4 type controller in V, not sure it will work on generic gamepad, but you could try this.

Try the following, go into your Steam client settings under " Controller" and select the "General Controller Settings" option at the top.
Make sure it looks like this:

Then apply and restart Steam, now test if your controller works ingame.
Though I don't understand why people would want to play this game on gamepad unless you are using steamlink.

FYI, super robot war has always been using gamepads for gaming,if what u mean is consoles' controllers.
becuz it nvr released on PC until recently, it is very uncomfortable to use keyboard and mouse to play this game, i don't understand why ur saying anyone would want to play this game with gamepad while 100% of ppl play srw with gamepad with decades

This control in the game is just point and click, and mouse is definitely the better tools for pointing, it's much faster and more precise, instead of hitting directional pad repeatedly or using analog stick pointing it directly with mouse is much faster. It's pretty helpful when the your squad and enemy is both on the opposite end of screen. It much much faster to navigate across the screen with mouse.

If analog is much precise and faster then we should be using an analog based device to replace mouse on everyday computing use.

I play this game using both device, when I am on desktop I am using kb/m and when I am away from my desktop I use steamlink on my phone I use the gamepad, and from both experience kb/m is definitely much better

this is why u don't understand gamepad for this game is insanely fast, this game has lot of shortcut key, like R1 is directly to your robot, u don't even need to click and point, then holding R1 when choosing a robot is a fast travel shortcut key, when choosing enemy target, R1 also works as directly choosing a closer target, when u want to quick restart, r1+r2+L1+L2+option is the way to do it, if u use gamepad for this game, is insanely fast, i used mouse and keyboard b4, is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slow

With the exception of quick restart which I rarely use and it usually just few flick away anyway, and the shortcut for those R1 is the "E" Button, just because you are too lazy to find it it doesn't mean it's not there. Is having a personal taste a crime now?

Clearly you are an clueless idiot, you see the mouse icon beside my nick? It's mean I am a customer and I own the game legitly, while you? Just a puny pirates, while I don't doubt you ever play the game or not, but you clearly not even a paying customer for this game and you are from hongkong so you are not region locked to buy this game, you just a troll.

Also I played the game since the Alpha series, so not exactly new player but I also never play the game after that.

L2+R2 that uses as a quick restart must be removed because these are trigger buttons that are not work on soft reset....this game needs to be patch reduced the shortcut key to L1+R1+select similar to SRW Z3 and SRW Z3.2 in the PS vita versions w/c they only use L1+R1+select and in SRW-impact it only uses L1+R1+select+start as a soft reset
