Are the pirate waves sent by the Skull Crown Fortress infinite?
I thought I would get some kind of special reward. I already defeated 5 waves and spent 1000 wood on repairs alone. Do I get to defeat the fortress eventually or is this just a form to farm combat items?

They are not infinite, I believe there are 10 waves of enemies.

Thank you. I suggest you place some kind of information so the player may know how many waves are left. Maybe some text on the screen or a pirate announcer on the island calling for reinforcements and cursing you. Whatever rocks your boat!

Also the AI for the ships seems to bug out.

Had a fleet of 3 ships.
Completed a few rounds successfully, then got overwhelmed and had two of my ships sunk.
The AI completely ignored my 3rd ship, instead just mooring up against the rear of the big skull.
Sunk the moored up ship to clear the round, the next wave respawned and did the same.
I repeated this for several more rounds, then decided to quit the game as I didn't know there was a limited number of rounds. (and didn't want to ruin the game with loot way above my level).

i actually just gave up completely on the game because i lost about 5 hours of progress (all my ships and all my money, plus crew and gear) due to the mistake of trying to do something on the very first set of islands before going to the next one.

like, absolutely no interest in going back to the game that i've been playing for the past few days. i don't feel like redoing hours and hours of gameplay just to get back to where i was financially.

please leave some kind of warning for other players so their interest in the game isn't killed like mine was.

I fled the battle because one random pirate ship (not part of the waves) was stuck in the island and I didn't know how long it would have taken to finish, so I figured that the stuck ship must've been doing something to me.

This event is very buggy.

I went in with 2 beginner ships. One gets sunk. Enemies stop fighting and ignore the other one. Board the strongest enemy ship. They give up without a fight. Now you have 2 ships again. Sinking any enemy ship triggers the next wave, while all ships from previous waves remain on the field. Rinse and repeat.

After the last wave you get a victory animation and a huge reward. Now each time you sink one of the remaining ships, you get the reward again (with a glitched out animation)! Now you can go to the merchant and resurrect all the ships with a fraction of the reward(s).

I ended up with several end-game(?) ships and a ton of upgrades after playing the game for only a couple hours. I doubt this is an intended outcome so I recommend other players ignore this event until it is patched.

I have given up after fighting about 20 waves. Not to mention that waves trigger NOT after defeating all enemy ships, but after sinking any (or a specific one), so at times, you get to fight against 30 ships at once.

... The description on the map of what the hell this is like for other icons would do. As is, there is none.

It also locks you in place if you board and capture a ship during these waves, forcing you to exit to menu and go back in to fix it

This just happened to me, lost ALL of the loot and over 6000 wood in repair fees because the game softlocked, though I assume I got the ship i boarded... I alt+f4ed after reloading and seeing it all gone.

And I don't see it mentioned here, but are the waves time based? they just seemed to pile on with no indication as to why, but I wasn't counting seconds in the heat of battle.

They seem to trigger on destroying one of the ships instead of ALL of the ships.

Have done this, didn't lock me in though.

Talk about bugged out! Everytime a new wave started, it spawned me back in front of the skull stuck between two islands, then wouldn't let my ship back up because I was too close to the island. I was able to get out twice, 3rd wave killed my main ship because it couldn't move. Ported me into one of my other ships, and it did the same damned thing! the game Kept respawning me in front of the skull island, then wouldn't let me back up.

I finally figured out that the new ship could sail forward between the posts, got inside and used the pillars as defense. Killed off several waves until I figured i could handle what was left after the skull blew up. Left the fenced in area, killed the rest.

When the last one died, I was softlocked in position, couldn't adjust sails or trim. Had to quit to main menu, when I loaded in, ALL loot was gone except for 40 wood that respawned in the center.

This event is so freakin bugged out, it took any fun I was having out of the game. I can't believe this was left in the game in such a buggy ass state. Who the hell play tested this? A pet chimp high on crack? uninstalled and quit. I don't have time to waste on something that causes that much frustration due to sloppy? Lazy? don't give a crap? game designers.

As of 1.5.5, this encounter has been revised to both fix the spawning issues and make it less punishing to lose. You can do waves one at a time now and the state will be saved, so you can do it at your own pace.
